HisSoldier:
I think you would be best served going to the
www.seecamp.com website and read the history and fact page of the Seecamp pistol.
The Seecamp pistol as I understand it was designed from day one to be a last ditch, up close and personal self defense firearm. The Seecamp, whether it be in the original 25cal, the 32cal, or even the 380cal. is not a "range gun", "target gun", not even in most circumstances the best choice in a pistol/revolver for self defense in a cc role.
Common sense will tell you that if you are anticipating, or concerned about the need for a cc weapon in defense of your life you chose the absolutely largest caliber, highest capacity, most reliable best quality firearm you can find.
There is no doubt that under all circumstances, BUT ONE, the Seecamp is not MY chosen self defense weapon for cc.. In that light I certainly prefer my Walther P99/AS with 16+1rds of Cor-Bons, or even my smaller, more concealable P99c/AS with 10+1rds of Cor-Bon HP's. Heck, even my snubby J-frame offers more "round" than any of the Seecamps..
Now we get to the "BUT ONE" situation I mentioned earlier..
Life is full of compromises.. One of those compromises as relates to a cc weapon is that a great deal of the time, because of wx, wardrobe, location and many other variables a firearm larger than the diminutive Seecamp simply CANNOT be cc...
You cannnot cc that "hand cannon" you know has the capability of knocking an aggressor off his/her feet a very large percentage of the time. Oftentimes I have trouble just cc my Walther P99c/AS in a very thin FIST Kydex iwb holster.. And the Walther P99c/AS is not a large weapon.
So, for me, the "BUT ONE" time means anytime I cannot cc a larger, more powerful weapon, I CAN cc my Seecamp. I can put it in my R.J. Hedley "wannabe" wallet holster and take it anyplace. Not only can I take it anyplace, but it is so light and concealable I often forget I am even carrying it.
I've found out that EVEN when I can cc a larger weapon I STILL cc my Seecamp too.. When my car keys and wallet go, my Seecamp goes.
All of this is my roundabout way of saying the Seecamp probably does not have the "life" expectancy of most weapons.. But the truth of the matter is you simply do not run "hundreds" of rounds thru a Seecamp on a weekly basis because in the first place you don't need that "experience".. If you ever shoot your Seecamp in defense of you life it will be from 3-5' at most, and probably more likely three yards,or less.. If you can't hit the center mass of a man (or evil woman) from nine feet or less, point shooting, you will be better served using a hand grenade for self defense.
Seecamps come from the factory, ready to go. No break-in is required other than finding out which of the two or three recommended hp round you particular Seecamps likes. (The two Seecamps we own feed Speer "Gold Dots" like corn thru a goose.) You find the round you like, and better yet, the Seecamp likes, then you load it up, stick it in your hidy hole of choice and forget about it. No extensive range practice is necessary, and only succeeds in burning up pretty expensive high quality self defense 32cal ammo rounds.
You CAN shoot your Seecamp all you want to, or can afford to, and I assure you IF you wear it out, and I've never personally heard of anyone actually doing that, I feel certain you can send it back to Milford, Ct. and while Larry Seecamp might say, "holy crap, this pistol has been run hard and put up wet" he will get it repaired for you, and the repair bill will be reasonable, if there is a repair bill.
If you feel the need to shoot $1000.00 worth of ammunition thru a $425.00 pistol to see if it's going to wear out, have at it. Makes no sense to me, but it's your pistol, and your wallet involved.
JMOFO but I'd be willing to bet after you ran that $1000.00 worth of ammo thru your Seecamp it would still be perking along just fine.
Now in case I missed the original intent of your post (and I often do that) and have offended you I certainly apologize. It was not my intend to offend, it was my intent to say to my knowledge no one has ever "worn a Seecamp out" by shooting too many rounds thru it.
My wife and I have two LWS32's now with an LWS380 on order. I think highly enough of each of them to consider them as family "heirlooms" to be passed down to members of our family when we are room temperature and toes up..
In the Seecamp, IMO, you have the absolute highest quality 25/32/380 cal. mousegun in the world. Absolutely the highest quality, and in my experience the easiest concealed, the most reliable, and if in a moment of you go brain dead and want to sell it you most likely not only will not not lose money, but probably will make money on the deal.
I suggest you take the Seecamp for what it is designed to be. The best there is in the nitch it is designed for. Larry Seecamp sells every pistol he makes, and the Seecamp reputation is 2nd to none, in any area I've every heard of.
Buy it.. Find out which round it likes.. Load it up.. Put it in your pocket.. Don't be worrying about wearing it out in your lifetime.. You won't.
I am a semi-senile old fart senior citizen.. I have been cc legally since 1966.. I have at one time or another probably tried almost every cc pistol/revolver out there and IMO there simply is none finer for the job than than the Seecamp..
Unless you actually hold, and fire one for yourself, you'll never know... If you DO hold and fire one your concerns will be resolved... Immediately..
Getcha' one.
Best Wishes,
J. Pomeroy
P.S. Yep, I'm a confessed Seecamp "Homer"
