I am considering scoping one of my Mosin Nagant 91/30's with a 2x or 3x fixed power long eye relief scope but would rather not spend any more for one than necessary. Improved vision in low light is more of a goal than a lot of magnification. What I want is a brand / model that will be durable enough hold up to the constant recoil of say 100 rounds of 7.62x54r a year so it will hold consistent zero yet not cost a small fortune on a rifle I have $ 60 in . Is this a realistic goal or does a person have to spend a gob of money for such dependability and durability ? I have no experience with long eye relief scopes and haven't hunted with any scope for over 20 years. Back then inexpensive scopes were almost always junk but I've heard things have changed to some degree on the Simmons, Tasco, BSA etc price range units. Your first hand opinions and experiences are appreciated.

I have two Mosin Nagants with scout scopes. Both are Burris, just because I already had them. I have a BSA scope on my MAS 49/56 and have no problems with it. What kind of scout mount are you going to use? I have Darrell mounts on mine....chris3

ball3006 ,

Right now I am considering a mount from Bullseyexpess based on pretty consistent reviews unlike those that are all over the board on the offering from ATI .

dprice ,

As stated, I want a low fixed power, fewer parts to go wrong, no frills yet durable scope that hopefully won't fog in cold temps .

The Receiver Mount for the MN from ATI is good, but I have found they dont stay tight, Unless you Epoxy Bed them to fit your receiver, and then Locktite the two screws real well.

Boy I must be a cheap son of a gun compared with all of you guys!

On everyone of my Mosins, I put in NCstar $40 2-7X power pistol scope.
Haven't had one lose zero yet. Incredibly cheap adjustment set up for the crosshairs. however, keep a dime in your pocket to adjust if needed. Use silver sharpie to mark zero elevation at 100 yards.

I make my own ammo, muzzle velocity of about 2200-2400 ft./s, 150 grain bullet, obviously this is a lighter load.

I have tested this load out to 800 yards. Believe it or not, the scope allowed me to make up to 50 M OA adjustment.

Sure got great results for the money I spent!

Pull off the rear sight, get some dovetail ring mounts, epoxy them in place when you're done. Jbweld

That NC scope gets real good reviews on a lot of sites> I got one and it is clear and holds zero. I modified the scout scope mount be tapping a hole in the mosin for the back of it being it moved around. Solid as a rock now
