I live right next to the MD line... I can see the state from from my window. There's a guy across the line who wants to purchase a revolver of mine. How can I do this legally? Can I take it straight to an FFL in MD and have them do the exchange? I'd like to keep it cheap or a sale probably wouldn't happen.

The gun must be transferred to the buyer by an FFL in Maryland. Yes, you can hand deliver the gun to the Maryland FFL.

As NavyLCDR said, you take it to an FFL in MD and have him do the transfer. Get your money then, there, and be done with it. The trick on his end is that the gun has to sit through 7-day (really a 14 -day :() waiting period during which he will be declared "disapproved" or "not disapproved" by the MSP to purchase the handgun.

If for whatever reason he's disapproved, you want to be finished with the transaction, paid, and done. Let him sort it out with the dealer and MSP. You don't want to be trying to get your gun back from his dealer, which will involve transferring it to a dealer in your state.
