I know that manufacturers of guns and maybe even gunshops have been in legal trouble before over their guns used in crimes. Has anyone heard of the "seller" in a totally legit private party transfer getting sued by the victims of a crime committed with said gun?

Haven't heard of it, but I would say that it could be real possiblity IF the seller knew or should have known that the buyer was prohibited from buying/purchasing a firearm. There are many who will not sell to someone they don't know or who does not possess a CCW license. Not a bad policy because of this very scenario.

Chicago is prosecuting the (now homeless) guy who first purchased the pistol used in the recent workplace shooting, not for selling it illegally (to a Chicago cop, 8 years ago, who later sold it to ANOTHER Chicago cop, both of whom are now deceased) but for NOT KEEPING THE SALES PAPERWORK for 10 years.

The National Socialist Reich of Daley marches on...
