Do I just ship it to their FFL as you would a pistol or can I just ship the rifle directly to them? The state it's being shipped to is IN.

I am also selling a rifle to someone in another state, in this case, Utah. The FFL there told me I needed to have a FFL in my state ship directly to the Utah FFL. My local FFL told me the same thing. Interestingly enough, neither FFL claimed that I couldn't legally ship directly to the Utah FFL, but they both said that they would not accept a shipment from a private party for a transfer.

I think technically they are "buying" the gun from the seller, so they want to be sure they're not handling a stolen gun and have some recourse to find the seller.

If they get it from another FFL they would assume the ID of the original seller has been checked and recorded.

In IL the STATE law requires that you ship from out of state FFL holder to FFL holder in state...not all states are the same, so good thing to check.
