When the cylinder is open, there's the serial number stamped along with the model number. Mine's the 686-6, CJJ prefix.
Is there any other place S&W put an additional or maybe hidden serial number? I was reading somewhere S&W put hidden or micro serial number.

The numbers stamped on the frame under the barrel are factory assembly numbers.

The actual serial number is stamped on the bottom of the butt.

There's the 3 digit assembly number, it's not on the frame, it's on the part that swings open with the cylinder. Don't really care about that.

The frame contains the model plus dash and the serial number. This number matches with the label on the fired casing envelope and on the box sticker.
So I guess they put it in two places. I haven't removed the grip yet.
