Seriously?

I have looked at a couple of "zombie apocalypse" writings recently (i.e. "Zombie Survival Guide" and zombiehunters.org) And I truly can't tell if there's a group of people who believe there are zombies, or if it's an eloborate and not quite funny joke. Could someone enlighten me? I just need to know if these people are serious, and until I do it will drive me insane. Forgive me if this is extremely obvious, but they make it sound like they truly believe that.

Max Brooks first work was a take off on the official Army survival guide, a work of humour that fools people to this day, kind of like Orson Wells' War of the Worlds.His newest [that I've seen] is out and out Sci Fi , along the same vien [so to speak] called World War V. No, he doesn't believe it,but writeing it that way [as if it were real] was geniu$.

It's SHTF fantasy. While there may be people who actually believe in zombies it's more about preparing for some sort of breakdown of basic services and having to defend yourself or your house against a possible onslaught of desparate people who want what you have and are prepared to kill you or your family to get it. It's easier to talk about zombies than people since there are no zombie rights activist groups
ETA: I assume since this is in strategies and tactics you were wondering why people prepare for a "zombie invasion"

Yes, that's the idea, I get preparing for a society breakdown, but the whole zombie thing kind of puts an unneeded spin on it. It takes away the logic of using firearms on a human (i.e. "shoot 'em in the head!"), and it gives preperation steps that are unnecesarry to a real disaster in which you would need prolonged survival techniques.
So now, I have to wonder aloud in hopes of a response, is there an actual SHTF survival guide that's worth owning?
One last comment... If this keeps up, there WILL be a zombie rights activist group... Maybe "Graypeace", or "PETZ (People for Ethical Treatment of Zombies)", maybe even a zombie humane society (Irony at work once again!!!)

Oh, Zombies are real. If you don't prepare for the Zombie Apocalypse, you most certainly will fall.
