This is a post to hear about some other peoples memories with their grandfather of dad. What kind of stuff did they teach you and how imortant are they to you. My dad left us and has never been around guns, but my grandfather is a different story. He is sooo important to me, he taught me everything i know about hunting and fishing, and life in general. But i know hes getting older and I hope i still have time. I wish I could have spent more time with him. But i can only hope that we will be able to be together for many more years because i still have many things to learn. But for my memory, the first guns i shot were all with him, my first black powder, first 410, first 20, first 12, first magnum. My grandfather is truly a great man.

SO NOW ITS YOUR TURN!

My dad isn't a big fan of guns (his uncle was murdered and his brother was blinded, both by guns), but he does own a .22 rifle and taught me to shoot with it as a child. Despite being a moderate anti, he was a good teacher. Safety was paramount, and a violation would not only get me a lecture, but would terminate our day of shooting. As I grew up and became more interested in shooting, he would let me borrow his rifle to shoot with my friends.

Now I'm grown, and while he doesn't really like that I own all sorts of evil-looking guns, silencers, and have a CCW permit, he does respect that it's my decision to make, and I respect him for having introduced me to shooting and taught me safety.

My father never grew up with firearms. When my father starting dating my mother her father taught my dad about guns and hunting. My grandfater(moms dad) bought all the grand kids a shotgun or .22 rifle. He then took us out and tought us the 4 rules and how to hunt. My grandfather passed away back in 1991. before he passed we had a few good trips upnorth hunting.

My father took me hunting after that and we always had a good time. We never did target shoot much. the best trip I had with me dad was this past year. I packed up and went to Michigan then we went to the family property further upnorth squirrel hunting. I did not get any squirrels but my dad and brother did. It was the first real bonding that I have had in years with my dad. I hope to go again next year.

If it weren't for George......

My Grandfather taught me just about everything I know today. He gave me guidance and taught me how to work hard for anything you want in life. He taught me how to shoot, how to hunt and how to fish. He was a consummate sportsman as were all 4 of his brothers. I was never at a loss for someone to go into the field with, either him or one of his brothers were always up for the trip. I'm 58 now and he passed when I was only 17 and words alone cannot begin to say how I miss him. All of the brothers are gone also but only in body. Their spirit and presence are still in attendance......
