Got a cousn who refinishes grips and stocks. Instead of sand paper or steel wool to remove the old finish he scrapes them with pocket knives. Then he brings me theese dull, rolled, knives to sharpen.:banghead:

Told him no more, stop abusing good knives or learn how to sharpen.

A piece of broken window glass makes as good a stock scraper as you can get.
Takes forever before it gets dull.

Just duck tape the edges you are holding on too.

Glass will work, but for really scraping, nothing beats the burr you can put on a well tempered steel scraper. It's really planing, with a micro-edged plane blade.

Here's a quick image from our good friends at Stew-Mac:

Just called him and told him both tips. He seemed receptive to the broken glass, figures. (Think redneck engineer)
Hope he heeds them.
the last knive he gave me was a mess. A kersaw drone 8cr13 mov, A/O .
Should be a felony to abuse a knice like that and a misdemeanor for knowing how to sharpen.
I have an old Gatco system around here I will give him. Kinda a stupid proof system
He is not a bad guy and he does do good work.

He ought to learn how to sharpen knives himself.

Knives are cutting tools, maybe not the most appropriate tool, but I have scraped a number of gaskets off engines with inexpensive pocket knives. All of my knives are consumables under the right conditions.

I also want my last check to bounce. :neener:

Start charging for wear & tear on your equipment.

A friend found out I had just got a Chefs Choice for my kitchen knives.
The next thing I knew he brought every knife he owned over for me to sharpen for him.

Including 4 bayonets, and 3 Machetes.

By the time I finished, the diamond disks in my Chefs Choice were worn out.

He thanked me.
And left with a bunch of very sharp blades.

I was left with a worn out $150 Chefs Choice that never has worked the same since.

You gotta' know when to just say no.
There's a big difference between being a friend in need and being taken for a sucker.

This sounds like being the only dude with a pickup truck when it comes time to move. I started telling people I would pay the first hour of their truck rental from home depot. Moving the same people every 6 to 12 months got old.
