Has anyone here heard about the "SAMURAI SHARK" Knife/tool sharpener?
https://www.greattvbuys.com/samuraishark/

I realize that every so often you see something similar to this on television that claims to be "the last sharpener you will ever need!" but has anyone here actually seen or used one of these?

Variations on that gadget have been around for decades. I wouldn't let one in the house. Buy a Spyderco sharpener and you will have a quality tool that really works and lasts a lifetime.

I bought a good quality stone or two, and then some knives from the second hand store to ruin, wear out and learn on. Ask a guy that worked with knives some questions and in a while I could sharpen a knife. That was about 40 years ago, once you learn you won't forget. I forgo the silly gadgets they sell.

I have a similar gimmick and use it occasionally to start the sharpening process on kitchen knives. As others have said, I would never use one of these on a quality knife. My dad taught me to sharpen knives with a whetstone about 55 years ago, so that's still my procedure of choice. Recently I purchased a double sided diamond sharpening "stone" from Moore Maker in Matador TX. It's thin, light weight and works really well for touch up in the field or even at home when I don't have time to work on the stone.

If it's:

a) Hawked by Billy Mays yelling at you, or
b) Rated as a $60 "value" but you get 2-fer-$10, or
c) BUT WAIT! You also get blah blah blah FREE for your $10 (just pay $10 S&H on top of the $10 S&H were already charging you),

It's crap. :D

Spyderco Sharpmaker is much better!

Thanks.

It seems the many of you use spyderco products, I will definitly look into it.
(I had a feeling that the samurai shark was a waste of money...:scrutiny:)

In addition to the "shipping and handling" charges, I have experienced where the fulfillment house kept my credit card# and made little charges to it a year later hoping I won't notice it.

I did and even though I contacted my bank and Visa, they refused to reimburse me for this theft because they told me that I did business with them before and there was no way I could prove that I did not authorize the new charge. I also think that banks/credit card issuers don't waste time with fraudulent charges under $50.

Let the buyer beware.
