I have read the thread on making paper cartridges and it is very informative but I wanted to make sure when loading for the .54 sharps rifle.

Is it ok to roll the bullet into the paper cartridge?
I made one and it looks right, fits in the chamber ok but I read an article in the April issue Guns&Ammo where they were loading bullet then paper cartridge separate. I just want to make sure I was doing it right.
Here is one I made with the bullet rolled into the paper

Someone on another forum i was asking this question on told me to leave the bullet tip exposed. Here is a second attempt. Is this correct or should I leave more of the bullet tip exposed?

Last year I used the dixie combustable cartridge kit and their 54 caliber mini bullets for a Guns Magazine project. The instructions call for making a powder-only cartridge to drop in behind the bullet. I wanted something resembling the original paper and linen cartridges so went ahead and glued in the bullet ahead of the powder. The negative aspect of this was that the nitrated paper that came in contact with the white glue I used wouldn't be fully consumed. This interfered with loading and made cleaning out the chamber after every ore or two shots necessary.

Tubes

USE perm papers, tracing paper, cig papers or there are a number of plastic tubes, or charlie hahans carbord tubes that actual disinagrate and go out the barrel
