Went out yesterday with my new Beretta 686 to shoot some clays. I am 52 but have never shot sporting clays before. I came across a huge problem. The first box or so of shells had no shot in them only "kick" :what:

You ever had this problem? :D

About 20 years ago, the exact same happened to me. I was amazed at how many shells had no shot. Their quality control gradually improved.

"Kick" is a function of inertia resulting from the projectile being fired from the gun - If you didn't have any shot in the shells, they wouldn't have exhibited recoil. You also would have noticed that the shells were MUCH lighter than they should be (there's about an ounce to an ounce and a half of shot in most 12ga shells)

Rail Driver.....it is a joke....
My sense of humor seems to shut itself off around midnight lately - I must be getting old. These kids are really taking it out of me - sometimes I wonder what life would be like if my "shells" didn't have any "shot" - I know I'd feel a lot younger than I do now!

Similar situation....shotgun only shoots rooster pheasants, during deer season it only shoots bucks......not sure if it's the ammo or the gun?

There's an old story about a gentleman sitting down in the middle of a quail hunt, opening up a shell and counting the shot therein. When asked what he was doing, he replied, "I just cannot believe with all these shot in a shell, I can't hit a bird with any of them."

IIRC the story was written by Nash Buckingham, who died in 1971 at the age of 90, so yours seems to be a problem with some history behind it. :D

Yeah, I remember when I first started "shotgunning" at age 16, I had cases and cases of shells with no shot in them . . . . :cuss: :cuss: ;) ;)
