I was just going to say:

Hans: Schiessen das Fenster.
Karl (gives him a confused look)
Hans: Shoot the glass!

I had to do a search for Crocs, I didn't know what they were as I've never heard of them.

I don't really ever wear sandals.

www.crocs.com/

I guess that everybody likes these if they wear sandals on a regular basis?

There's another popular brand made out of leather that have a backstrap on the ankle so that it stays in place better. Does anyone have any idea what those might be called? I see all kinds of people wearing them for trips to the corner market, but I'm not going up to some guy and ask him where he bought his shoes, I'd feel kind of gay.

So does anybody have any idea??

Browning, a brand called Birkenstocks might be what you're looking for. They have many different styles including a few with straps around the ankles.

they tend to be...er......pricey.

Crocs are now being knocked off by a lot of other companies jumping on the bandwagon... about 2 years too late. Now, they're available in flea markets, stop and robs, and lots of shops in the mall.

Leather sandals with a strap are difficult to put on quietly if they have a hook and loop closure, and difficult to put on while still coming out of REM sleep and distracted by a bad situation. I have a pair of Teva (Tev-uh) leather sandals that are like birkenstocks that I wear all the time. But, they can be hard to put on without light and focused attention. Two things you may not have if this situation happens to you.
Yes, I'm a bohemian long hair white guy.

I use a pair of bright orange croc knock offs that I can slide into easily for night time footwear. I 'spose I could spray paint them black for tacticoolness, but I actually like the orange.

Checking for intruders with an edged weapon isn't an altogether bad idea, if you know what you're doing with the knife.

Here in earthquake prone California, not only do they recommend shoes by your bed, but they also recommend that you also have a crow bar or pry bar in case your door gets so twisted shut by the tremblor that you have to demo your way out (supposed to work on fallen furniture, too)
