Just got back from target, and for $17.99, they have this wild-west themed marksmanship game built for kids 5 years and up!

It's awesome!




I'm sorry if this sounds like spam or a plug for something, but I promise it's not!

I was looking for some toy guns for my 3 1/2 year old, but I don't really like the idea of him running around the house pointing guns - real or fake - at people and pets. I wanted to find something more like target shooting, and this was perfect!

It's accurate out to 30 ft, and you aim right at the center of the plastic cans! The gun has a IR laser that fires at a slight downward angle, so as to trip the sensor under the can. When you score a "hit", a sprin pops the can up in the air like you shot it with a .22!

Sorry if this sounds corny, or if you think it's not suitable for THR, but I figured some parents might want to know about this toy! It's great fun, and a cool way to introduce really young kids to the concepts of marksmanship without actually having a projectile firing weapon.

My son is going to town on these cans right behind me right now as I speak!

I think it is a great way to get youngsters started in the shooting sports, as well as building into them the confidence and self esteem they need to handle firearms, and also, teach them that guns are a useful tool.

We must start them off young, to help them build up a powerful layer of immunization against the libpervert brainwashing they might encounter later on when they receive "professional" education.

I had something like that when I was nine. It had a photoelectric eye that sensed when it was shot. Then I figured out that a flashlight worked with it, so I started machine-gunning down cans with that. It was fun.

My girlfriends little brother has one of these and its great. He had it and played with it non-stop for about the first 2 weeks but then got bored knocking the cans off and then having to pick them up and put them back together so he would put regular tin cans on there.

FYI, the bottles are in 2 pieces so when you "hit" them they fall in half and you have to pick up the pieces and stack them back toghether.

It plays corny spaghetti western music and you have to shoot the three bandits before they shoot you. Kinda stupid, but the kids like it.

I also have... uh, I mean they also have the carnival-style gallery with the ducks going across in a line, and one with a shotgun with clay pigeons that fly across.

We,ve had it over here for a few years now. I bought it my daughter for Christmas when she was eight 3 years, and the whole family had a great time sending those bottles and cans flying along with all the associated sound effects.

Tin Can Alley? I had one. Then when I was 14 I got my first pellet gun and completely riddled my Tin Can Alley.

Some of the things that got me interested and kept me there.

Metal Lion. Hit a bullseye on it with a rubber suction cup dart and it would growl and the eyes would light up. Thing was about 9 inches long by 6 inches high on a stand that added another inch and a half to the height.

Metal clicker pistol (Something from the 1920's or 30's) Had one of those cricket clickers inside of it. Looked like a Colt Police Positive model, and painted black.

Parris wooden guns. Had a pistol that shot cork balls using a greenie stickem cap as a propellant. Also had the M1 Garand drill rifle that came with an attachable rubber bayonet (that did not throw like anything on TV) and a 'bullet' on a spring in the chamber. It also had a clicker mechanism in the trigger.

Plastic Hunting Rifle. Either Sears or JC Penney sold this one in the early 60's in the Christmas Catalog. It came with a Telescope and was a bolt action. The telescope was a see-through without lenses.

Daisy cork gun. At least I think it was a Daisy. Shot cork balls and looked like a Winchester.

Mattel Dick Tracy Submachine gun and Snub Nose Pistol. The Submachine gun had a spring rachet that made it sound like multiple shots. It also had a place in the magazine for a roll of caps. The pistol shot plastic bullets that were spring loaded into metal cases. The hammer struck the case, sending it forward, pushing the plastic bullet into a shoulder in the chamber that forced plastic wings in, freeing the bullet from the case.

Dick Tracy Shotgun. This one was a squirtgun that also held caps and shot a nice heavy stream of water about 20 feet or so. Worked by pulling the trigger at the same time that you pulled the slide.

Man From Uncle pistol, holster, ID card and Badge only, not the bigger set with the attachable shoulder stock and extention barrel.

James Bond Attache case with gun and accessories. A Luger-like pistol that shot out plastic round nosed tubes.

I'm sure there were a few other toys from the era before color TV and X-box. How about some of you?

I saw one of these at a KB toy store about a year ago. My youngest loved playing with it in the store, but when it came down to it, she wanted the tea set.

When I was younger, I had something called "Target Town". It was a miniturized Old west street and you had a shotgun to blast the baddies whenever they peaked out of the windows or doors. You had to "rack" the shotgun before every shot though.
