What’s the deal with these tube style shooting bags being used as a rear bag? I need something a hair taller than my Caldwell rear bag. Do you also use these for prone shooting?

Here’s one I make. Pretty standard, adjustable fill, 5” diameter 6” side wall, Velcro closure to adjust fill... just something to support your rifle, versatile enough to adapt to various bipod heights and shooting angles. Trades versatility for stability, as it’s not as solid as a hard packed Edgewood bunny ear rear bag.

What do you fill them with?

Most typically, polypropylene pellets. Git-Lite is good, but pricey. Airsoft bb’s suck. Sand tends to suck. Chromite or zircon sand is super heavy, but does tend to move enough but not too much... but too heavy. Making these with Velcro closure or zippers allows the user to change media any time, as desired.

I use old canvas shot pellet bags filled with spent 209 primers for rear bags - lighter weight and very stable

Yup, me too. I make them as I get enough 209's (and I toss the spent rifle and pistol primers in, too) and leave them in the shelves for such things at the rifle range.

I use foam pellets in zippered ballistic nylon bags with a Zip-loc liner. Amazon prices $8 for foam & over fills 2 bags. Bags $9 for 2. 711JZ4Gdc5L._AC_SS450_.jpg 91jN+TrCHUL._AC_SS450_.jpg
