I tried a search but to no avail. Does anyone know of an outdoor range in San diego County that allows BP? I am not new to shooting by any means, but I am a noob to BP. I have an 1851 Colt Navy Replica, and hope to aquire an 1858 Remmie also. Problem is I have nowhere to shoot them......My local range is indoors and they don't allow BP. Please don't tell me to move from California either. To me, this is paradise and I ain't leavin any time soon. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I used to shoot my Remmie at Discount Gun Mart.

Then I left California.

Stay there. It really is paradise. Everywhere else really sucks.

If you like it that much why don't you move back there again? Hell, if I were you I would have done been gone back there seeing as it's such a paradise. If they don't have any room there, well, it's my understanding that the Ayotollah and President of Iran have extended an invitation to all Americans to move over there. They will help pay your way over there and give you immediate 'landed immigrant' status....

I came here in 87 from Arizona because of a job change. I spent most of my life in southwest and don't remember not wanting to go to my local range because of too many "don'ts" like no BP or rapid fire. They had tons of promotional stuff, fairs, shows and opportunities to learn new shooting skills. It is where I first learned combat pistol competition and different types of target shooting including BP. They had a smith present to clear your barrel for the hand loader who might forget to load a round without the powder and although they had a military attitude they were also very patient and friendly and welcomed the new guys like me. There is one range I like here but its small and short and inside (prefer outside) but the people are nice, even helpful. I've decided to look for a place as close to home as I can get but outside and not at a range. A place where I can throw some groups, in private, where there is no one to help me mind my business.

Is there a muzzleloaders club or SASS outfit in Sac?

if times have not change to much and you don't mind a really nice drive over the mountains into the anza borrego(sp) area, you can set up your own target range. i shot a lot of rimfire there, several years ago. i don't think anyone would have minded me pulling out the highpower.

In Sacremento? If you come out 299 to Humboldt County,on the 2nd Sunday of the month we have a black powder shoot. This one's going to be our ''Toy Shoot''...on the 13th.

craneman -
I will ask my brother-in-law as my nephew lives down in the San Diego area and might know of a range that allows BP

poetgrey-
There used to be a range out near Folsom that held Civil War BP shoots but don't know if that range is still there. Again I'll check with my BIL as he and my sister live up in the foothills of the Sierras east of Sac.

Thanks for all the responses. I have some new directions to follow up on. I appreciate all your help and suggestions.:D

Poetgrey, Sass clubs in Sacto

go to www.sassnet.com and on the left is a link to affiliated clubs. I know of one in Yolo County at the airport, and I think there is one in Jackson. Also Manteca, and I think in Davis. I shoot in Richmond and guys come from your way.

Craneman,
Call American Shooters(?) in Kearny Mesa and ask them when the BP guys take over the Pala range...Pretty sure it's only once a month, but that's better than nothin'!
I (on the other hand) AM moving from "paradise" to Colorado so I can shoot in the front/back yard.

I've shot black powder at the South Bay Rod and Gun Club but mostly I shoot modern rifles there. At the P2K range, I shoot trap. For my black power fix these days, I just go the Imperial Valley and shoot in the desert. The best place I've found in Imperial Valley is off hi-way 98. Just drive until you run out of mobile homes and turn south
