Should property rights trump 2A rights

What I fail to grasp here, is why so many of you INSIST that it is your right to spend money in places that have no respect for you, your civil liberties or your safety? Why reward these people for spitting in your face?

Why not shop, dine, spend money in places that respect you?

The really cool thing about circular arguments is that you can eventually just reply by post number.

So, in that vein, "Post #112!"

THAT is why I don't give a hoot about the property owner's desires.

If you come into my house and I ask you to leave your gun in your car and you don't, you might find my gun in your face.

You know, when we don't stick to the discussion at hand (carry in businesses/establishemnts that post "no-guns" signage) this discussion gets absurdly heated for no purpose whatsoever.

No one is coming to your house, and if they did, and you said to them, "leave your gun outside," and they refused and entered anyway, they would be guilty of tresspassing.

That's NOT under debate. But now we've got "my gun in your face" kind of talk flying over it.

"Hey, there's not enough traction in the argument at hand ... let's insert something unrelated that we can REALLY get angry about.

Or not.

That wouldn't happen because I wouldn't invite anyone into my house that I didn't trust. However... my house, my rules.

I see Sam closing this thread soon.

But I'll just have to add one last thought:
you might find my gun in your face.

I hope the local jail is comfortable. ;)

Actually in Florida, not true. It would be the same as ignoring the sign. "Leave your gun outside" != "Get out", legally speaking.

But we get your drift.

Well that would suck. I hate closing a thread that I've been an active participant in because I don't want to give the impression that I've chosen a "winning" side and closed it to shut off debate.

On the other hand, when the same argument comes around for the fourth or fifth time, there doesn't seem to be much benefit to leaving it open.

If the main participants have all had their fair chance to air their points of view and really don't have another facet of the debate to explore, I can close it on an amicable note if that's cool with everyone.

Sometimes if these are left open they become magnets for random "drive by" posts, usually one liners that whack some already well-hashed point. Replying to those is never-ending and exhausting.

So, what of it? Are we done here?

My business, my home, my property all have one thing in common - they're mine. I would not put up a "no carry" sign on my property. But if I was some smirky anti-gunner, I'd have the biggest laugh of all on the fact that you would insist on ignoring my insulting rules and giving me your money.

You can ask one of the other mods to close it.:neener:

As for me, I've already done my drive-by so I'm done.

Really? You enter my house armed after being told not to, and then I go to jail? Perhaps, but just to visit you.

Of course, I wouldn't tell you to leave your gun outside unless you were some baggy-pants idiot with a backwards ball cap. I don't think you are, so you'd be welcome. Wednesday is usually meatloaf night, so you might want to avoid dropping over then...

Not too sure about your particular state but in many states you would have committed a felony with your actions. While I support the right of private property owners to restrict behavior on their property, whipping out a piece on someone who does not pose an immediate threat to your life, just ain't right and could easily be construed as an illegal escalation of force.

Ugh. Well, there it is.

Who's visiting who in jail after whipping out their guns ... enough.

It's been fun!

Late To Party

I see Sam beat me to it.

This thread was overdue for closing, having some time since passed the "more heat than light" threshold.

Please accept my apologies for not having seen to it sooner.
