Shouldn't it be the self defense carry ammo going for $1 a round?

.223/5.56 is available at auction for $1 a round.

.40, .38 Special, .357 Magnum and 9 mm is plenty available at online auction for a lot less, and last night I bought all the .38 Special practice ammo I wanted for less than $0.40 a round.

You would think that people in carry permit states need carry ammo for both practice and walking around. .223/5.56 can wait till prices go down. Shouldn't this make carry ammo the stuff that's hard to find at a reasonable price?
 
Dont know about you but my practice ammo is FMJ. No way I could afford to practice with SD ammo.

I buy enough of SD ammo to run a few mags through it and make sure it functions. Whats left is my defensive ammo then I replace that at the rate of about a box a month.
 
What I mean is that the calibers that people run through carry guns are the ones that people should be worried about.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to carry a gun you want to practice with it.

.223/5.56 can wait for when prices come down.

Panic would be having a carry gun and not being able to buy enough ammo to practice.
 
OH! Okay I get it now. Yes I would tend to agree.

But if you want to sell something tell people they cant have it. Im sure the wasnt the intention but it was the result.
 
Apples & Oranges.

People with new AR-15's don't practice.
They go blow through 200-500 rounds in an afternoon, making a lot of noise shooting and whooping and hollering Hell Yea & high-fiving their friends!
And hitting hardly anything they shot at at 25 yards.

CCW folks either never practice at all, or shoot half a box twice a year when they get out of the city far enough to do it.

The new guy with a .357 air-weight snubby shoots 2 shots, rubs his stinging tender hand, and goes home, never to shoot again.
His box of ammo will last him the rest of his life

That's why I sold my DPMS LR-308 four years ago.
I just got around to selling the 3 boxes of ammo I did not shoot.

I did get a .270 bolt action, and I shoot it with reduced recoil loads at the range.

Call me a wimp, but .243 is more my style, in bolt action and lever gun.

I've never actually come across one in the wild but gun store legend has it that many, many M29-2 were sold used in LNIB condition with a half a box of ammo after the Dirty Harry thing cooled off. :D

Saw some Rem .357 magnum JHP ammo at Big 5 the other day for $50/50 but that's their usual price...:rolleyes:

I must not be a typical CCW folk. I try to make sure I shoot at least 200 rounds/month in my EDC gun. I usually make it at least 100. I'd do more than that, but I've got to show my mausers, mosins, and 1903's some love too. They get very depressed if they don't get shot for a while.

I do know who your talking about, though. I know several people who have their CFP, but seem scared to even practice. I've invited several of them to go shooting with me, but only one has. He had a Kahr 9mm that was having some pretty serious issues with stovepiping. He didn't seem too concerned because he only carried when he was going somewhere that made him nervous. :banghead: Don't understand that one. The only time my gun isn't on me is when I'm in the shower or at the post office. I avoid the post office like the plague and haven't had to go to a courthouse for over a year.

I really like living in semi-rural Utah! :)

You definately arent typical. I shoot at least once a week. During my bullseye league season, at least three times a week. I know tons of gun owners that are lucky to shoot once a year. These are usually the ones that refuse to support gun rights too.
 
Once upon a time, I shot *every* day, either while teaching classes or doing my own practice and competitions (National Match to PPC, to IPPSC to IDPA and much more) . I did this for about 30 years with only a few days off. Those habits formed pretty strong skills and I have found that even without the old routine, I still retain probably 99% of what I once had.

Now that I am retired, I'm actually happy shooting a couple of rounds of clays each week to BS with the guys and hunting, while actually hitting the centerfire ranges only a couple of times a month.

After *so* much for *so* long...it's *good* to be the old guy at the range.

I've never noticed a different between my shot placement with JHP's and FMJ's. Since FMJ's are cheaper, I practice with those.
 
Same here. FMJ and premium SD ammo hit so close to POA in my carry guns that I use FMJ for everything but actual CCW. Every once in a while I'll burn off some JHP to rotate the stock.
