I found this over on GunsAmerica last week. They wanted too much for it but it is unfired and a no-dash so I figured it would bring a premium anyway. Came in today and exceeded my expectations. Cleaned it up and polished with a Lead Away cloth. I still need to take it to the range. DHart won't be too proud of my pics but I am striving toward his level of quality.

Your pic looks great, and I'm sure Mr. Hart would agree with your "step 1": start with a great revo, in great condition with great "furniture". You definitely covered all those bases.
(What are those grips, anyway?)

I think they were offered as an option on the Distinguished Combat originally. The little emblem on them is S&W.

Wow nice 686 there.Best of luck with it.Im sure Youll love the way it shoots .I was very supprised to see how accurate they shoot for a short barreled revolver. The grips on these are very comfortable and your are very distinctive looking.Dont worry about the price You paid for it .The enjoyment You get from this one will be worth it all the way.

i think those are factory S&W grips for K/L frames. i have a set i've kept over the years i will put on a 66 or 686 snubby.

I have a 686-2 with a 4" barrel, Pachmyer grips, Millet red dot, and B-Square
mount. Great shooter. Enjoy!

Greg - excellent pic - I am sure Don would agree. :)

The 686 is one heck of a gun - I have a 6" 686 which I use for PPC, which I bought quite well used but - it is a dream to shoot, as was my first one ever back in 80's. It is also a dash nothing.

Looks a bit odd because I made for my first 686 a 15 ounce barrel weight and have fitted it to this one - no ''pretty'' factor like that dream piece of yours but - it performs well. ''Functional'' is the word I think :p

Your 686 looks great. Older 686’s are one of my favorites. I believe the 686 no dash models were recalled. If your 686 has an M stamped by the model number on the crane it has been sent back to Smith already, if not you might want to send it to Smith for the repair. This repair should be free and Smith even pays shipping.

I think I would buy any gun those grips were on, regardless of the price. Beautiful piece, and great photograph!

Just picked up a 4" 686-no dash myself at a pawn shop. Excellent shape and no recall work so its getting a free trip to S&W. Its an excelent shooter with the 38spl's. I will try Magnums once the recall work is performed.
