I've owned a Sig "Commander sized" 1911 with the traditional 1911 slide profile for about a year. It is the "Emperor Scorpion" (or some such odd ball name), but it runs and shoots really well. It is in my carry rotation and has been very reliable.

I like everything about the gun... Fit, finish, trigger, accuracy, and extras...

I say finish, but I'll put a "maybe" on that one. The PVD finish they put on my gun is as tough as nails except in one place. On the first day after four hours of carry, the finish on the trigger guard rubbed down to the stainless frame!

In the year or so I've owned the gun I have not babied it. The finish already has a ding in it so why not use the gun and run it hard? Dispite this approach the finish everywhere else has held up to my use with no wear... Just that one spot. I can only assume they missed this spot during the finish prep.

The gun went back to Sig in the first few weeks for another issue and I had them evaluate the finish. They said the finish wasn't covered under warranty and were nice enough to offer to refinish the pistol for $200!! No thanks...

I asked the customer service rep, "Since you will not fix the finish issue on my first Sig pistol, will you fix it on my LAST Sig pistol?" I don't think they understood my position.

It is a really well made gun which runs great and shoots accurately. It has everything I want in this style of gun. I carry it often and am confident in it performance.

I'm just not impressed with Sig's customer support...

I have a plethora of 1911s from different manufacturers. One of them is a Sig "Fastback"... basically the 4" with a round butt.

It is an awesomely accurate 1911 and I have no idea why.. it easily rivals a Springfield TRP and others. It doesn't seem particularly tight or anything... it just shoots very, very well. When it was brand new, it would occasionally fail to lock up completely.... which was solved right away by touching the underside of the extractor with a file, as it was a bit tight and was not letting the cartridge slide up the breech face very easily. Since then, it is 100%. I'm very happy with it and do carry it sometimes, although it's a bit heavy for that, with the steel receiver.

My favorite 1911 is the SIG Nightmare carry. When I finally decide I need a 1911, that's the one I'm getting. Every SIG I've handled always seems to be well fitted.

I had to vote nay based on my experiences with my nitron railed Sig 1911.
It's a beautiful, well finished with great machining
But even after a trip back to Sig to fix a bad FTF issue,
It is still the epitome of unreliable.
If you are looking for a good 1911, there are other options. I wouldn't buy or recommend another Sig 1911.
My Colt 1991 will feed what the sig rejects without issue

Hey OP,

It's been a month. What did you end up doing?

I carry Sig 1911s everyday on duty. Either a Scorpion with a light or a Tribal Ultra.

I've tried very hard to not like the Sig 1911. The external extractor, strange slide shape, and the firing pin safety freaked me out.

As hard as I tried to be a hater, I can't help but love it. It runs and runs and runs. I own 3 colts and a Remington R1. I only carry the Sigs because they have proven to be reliable.

I had a Scorpion Carry as well, traded it for a Colt. Wish I hadn't. The Colt is looser and the fit is way below the Sig, for the same money. As a matter of fact, if one of you colt guys want it, I'll sell or trade it ASAP. it's a Series 70 MKIV, blued, made in '79. Original collet bushing and all. PM me if you're interested.

Customer service? The Carry mags wouldn't drop free on an open slide (slide lock). Christmas week I called Sig. They immediately emailed a shipping label. I sent it the next day. It was sent back to my FFL in only 7 days, fixed - over the Christmas holiday. Wow.

Since the Scorpion is in the $800 range, it can be a working gun and I don't mind setting it to the ground if needed:

And it shoots awesome:

In the Sig 1911 price range, you can't go wrong with it.

I didn't buy anything new even though I wanted to. I bought a few new parts and a spring kit for my Springfield 1911 and I'm looking for a local gunsmith to cut a dovetail into the slide so I can add Novac low profile sights. I know it's not the same as the thrill of a new gun but it will due for now.

Thanks for asking...

Same here. I especially like the "tactical" size (smaller), fully adjustable rear sight-plus the fact that the sights are SIGLITEs made for night shooting.
