So, I just picked up my SIG 220. Its is stamped made in Germany, but has no proofmarks or date code so it was assembled in the US.
My pistol has Hogue grips on it that I am not fond of. I want to get some of the original plastic checkered grips for the pistol. My understanding, though is that at some point SIG made changes to the 220 mainspring and that the original grips will not fit the later 220 models.
So, is there any way for me to find out if the original plastic grips will fit on my 220?

Thanks, Mike.

Not 100% sure, but if your pistol has a metal mainspring seat, it's the old style.
A plastic seat is the new style.
Better get a second opinion on that, the memory is a bit fuzzy there.

All you have to do is take off the grip and look at the mainspring seat.

If you have a piece of stamped metal that the mainspring strut runs into, you have the old style mainspring.

If you have a plastic boot that the strut runs into, you have the new style mainspring.

You can make the old style grips (checkered as oppose to the stippled) fit the new style mainspring by removing material from the inside of the grip to clear the boot. The aluminum and G-10 grips by Hogue also have the checkered pattern texturing on them
