Ordered this Sig last month to beat Kommifornistahn's ending of the "single shot exemption", as this gun is not on the DOJ Approved list...at least not in this finish. The first 200 rounds of ball ammo had one light primer strike (not sure if it was a cleaning issue or ammo issue, but it went bang the second time I ran the round through) Sig ONLY provides one magazine (3rd gen), so I got several Metalform mags, and 2 seven round sig mags...all of which performed flawlessly. As such I have to recommend the cheaper Metalform brand over the expensive sig mags.

After a good cleaning, including the firing pin and firing pin hole, ran another 200 rounds of GECO ammo through her and no more light strikes (but I will be running some Blazer ammo through it to see if there are any issues with their tough CCI primers). I had only one malfunction from my fat thumb hitting the mag release at mid recoil :banghead: ...which induced a failure to feed (from the mag dropping onto my pinkie finger) that had to be cleared as if it were a double feed because the round canted into the top of the chamber at such an angle that it didn't let me re-seat the mag... I think I'll call it a user induced malfunction.

The Sig night sights are excellent. Even though this gun isn't really meant to be a target pistol, it was easy to hit 2 liter bottles at 25 yards with monotonous regularity.

Overall impression so far, is that it seems to be a solid little pocket rocket. It's been on my permit for a week, and has resided in my pocket for that duration. The grip screws, I do not believe, have the Nitron finish since they are already showing wear after just a week of pocket carry.

The gun is fun enough to shoot, that I'm very glad that 380 is a caliber I handload. This gun will get carried AND shot a lot :)

You did very well, it is one of the best 380 pistols in the conceal carry market. My wife loves it as it is easy to shoot with little recoil and easy to rack the slide too. Congrats and enjoy. Snoop

Congrats on your P238. I acquired mine a few years ago and use it as my 'motorcycle' CCW piece. It fits neatly in my riding vest or in a jacket pocket without showing a bump. With layers of riding gear and no access to a holster, this flat little gun is ideal for motorcycling. I stuff it with the extended magazine (7+1) with commercial Magtec hyper velocity hollow points.

I had to buy this one when I found it, love the finish and grips. Not to mention the accuracy for a such a little gun. I may have to get a 938 scorpion at some point.

Been pocket carrying one since they first came out. Own 2...The very first gen and the first hd version. Best shooting .380 I've ever shot and I've shot quite a few of them.

Good thing sig finally got their bugs worked out. Both of mine had to go back to get working. That was years ago though. Now flawless and eat anything I feed it and work with every mag change out there and I own a few of each change.

Enjoy yours.

1st Impressions - SIG P238

My first impression is that it is a neat looking small gun, and that it looks like a chopped down version of a 1911, but in .380ACP.

Since I am an aficionado of the 1911, I say "Bravo!" for making them when "all the rage" is DA.:D

I opted 4 the 938 as i wanted 9mm... just a hair bigger gun.. but just like yours with rosewood on blue.... they are both very purdy.... enjoy....

I have pretty much the same P238 as yours but also came with a spare mag, holster, and laser module. Picked it up a couple of years ago and have been very pleased with the overall quality and reliability of the gun.

Thanks for the replies. Ran 100 rounds of cheapo (well...nothing 380 is cheap) Blazer and no light strikes.

Congrats! I have the P938. Great pocket pistol. Keep thinking I should grab a P238 to go with it, but funds tend to go elsewhere.
Just curious, what county are you in that you got it on your LTC so quickly?

Of all the 380 pistols the P238 was my favorite until I aquired a G42 which is equally as nice a shooter though a little larger than the P238.

In any case you can't go wrong with a P238.

Lucky... Kings, Kern, Tulare and Fresno counties are all excellent in getting guns added to your ccw very quickly.

Counties like San Fransisco simply does not issue...except to Dianne Fineswine.
