What are the prime differences between these two versions of the P-220? Cosmetics is very obvious.
Is the finish made out of different material or coated with something better than the base P-220?
Is it worth the extra cost to get the P-220 Equinox?

Only if you want factory installed fiber optics and a sharper image. Sharper edges too.

Performance wise the main difference is the night sights. Some folks like the TRUGLO front sight, but I never cared for how it floats above the slide.

The Nickeled controls are nice, but there isn't a different coating applied to the slide. All they have done is removed the Nitron coating from the flats and given them a brushed finish. Whether all that an the inscribed name on the slide is worth the extra cost would be a matter of your personal cosmetic sense

Well it's around $200 more for Equinox and if that Nickel finish doesn't lessen or make the protective coating anymore vulnerable with less finish to protect metal then it's a personal decision. I will have to see for myself about the differences in those sites.

We might have a cross connection here. The nickel finish is on the parts that are usually blued (slide stop, trigger, hammer, takedown lever), I'm not sure how adding nickel would result in "less finish"

They do remove the protective coating on the shinny parts of the slide to expose the bare stainless

I on the other hand found the Equinox tastefully done, not over the top like some rainbow and molon labe variants. I chose a Nitron finished model because it seemed holster friendly. The sights are replaceable, DIY. The Equinox is the opposite of what is known as "dehorning".

It's a beautiful gun compared to the plain P-220.

If so, you should get the Equinox. Holding and admiring the polished slide will make you feel good. The $200 difference is worth it, and will soon be forgotten as the saying goes. Down the road you can recover most of it due to a higher resale value.
