I just took my brand new Sig 2022 out for the first time this weekend, and I couldnt be happier with it.

Mine is in .40 S&W and the recoil was the same as the CZ75 B all-steel 9mm I used to have.

As for why it is cheaper, the only thing I can say for sure is that it is polymer-framed.

Other than that, I have HEARD that the R&D was bought and paid for by the French national police, so Sig can afford to really lowball the price in order to try to edge into the polymer pistol market.

I'm going to have to agree with the polymer frame idea. Another thing I think *might* be at issue is durability of the polymer frame. One of the demo models at my local gun pusher... I mean dealer, was starting to show wear in the area of the upper leading edge of the grip. It seemed like the slide was contacting it somehow and was beginning to fold it back so that it was sticking up and could snag on things. I also didn't think the trigger was on par with my Sig 228, but that could just be that mine's broken in.

And no, I'm not a poly pistol hater, I'd be more than happy to buy a glock if I could just find someone local to me selling one.

I'd also say that the standard "P serries" (226, 220, 228/9 etc) are probably seen as more reliable or durable due to the fact that they have military/DOD contracts.

When the SP2022 first came out it was more expensive though still a bit cheaper than the metal SIGs. The current price point also usually includes only one magazine so take that into consideration.

No one but SIG management knows for sure why the price is so low these days but what Malice has stated seems to be part of the consensus that SIG long ago paid off the R&D and machinery to make the SP2022 as their have been a ton of them made for contracts and yes it certainly has to be cheaper to make those poly frames than the alloy ones. SIG has discontinued the SP2022 a couple of times (thinking the P250 would be the wave of the future) but they keep showing up as contract over runs selling extremely well at the lower price point.

Now it is back in the SIG catalog and my guess is that possibly a decsion has been made to keep it as a low price point to get a SIG without almost any worry of taking sales away from the premium metal frame hi cap 9MM/.40 SIG pistols - the P226 and the P229 while taking away sales from competitors. That seems like a good bet if true as I am reading about many getting a SP2022 and then wanting to buy more SIGs because of first buying and being impressed with the SP2022. For sure a lot of people that would never have considered a SIG before because of the prices are snapping up the SP2022.

The SP2022 has proven to be a very reliable and durable pistol with outstanding accuracy - the hallmarks of the classic P series SIGs.

Interesting article on SP2022 reliability.

As far as disadvantages I would say not much at all. More than a few have reported that they can shoot their SP2022 better than the P226 or any other pistol for that matter. Myself I still prefer my P226 but not by a large margin which is saying a lot for me because I prefer the P226/P228 to any other 9MM pistol. To me the P226 is a better looking pistol and there are more accessories available including a large assortment of grips and magazines available. I also believe my P226 is very slightly more accurate and prefer the grip on the P226 being a bit longer than the SP2022 and can take Mecgar flush fit 18 round magazines.

2022

I pick mine up Saturday ! Can't wait to break it in. I plan on replacing the poly guide rod with a stainless steel one to help with the durability.

I recently "fell into one" for a VERY low price, lower than any other I can find anywhere. I don't really need it, but couldn't pass up the deal. Anyone interested in purchasing it? LOL... I just never knew much about Sig, typically because I've been on a Taurus budget and Sigs are usually 2X more. But this one is practically in Taurus range!

A neighbor recently bought one and asked me to go with him to try it out. I have a P-239 I like.

I was really fairly surprised by how well it shot for me. Accuracy and recoil was good. The trigger wasn't too bad for a new pistol either.
If it holds up, I think it's a good pistol.

The only thing I DID NOT LIKE was the tear-down and reassembly procedures. I could live with it, but it would be a 'really' nice pistol, if it broke down and went back together like the P series.

Which ever you can afford. Since I like both and found them in good deals. I got both.... twice!
