So what's the deal with these things, anyone know?

Did it die before it was born? No one seems to have any, or know anything about availability even thought they have ben announced now for going on 10 months.

Anyone have the scoop?

one of the big gunstores here has two of them..one in 9mm and the other in .40..

The 226 X-Five I have seen had a price tag of $2,499.00 , but the claim is it can shoot 2" groups at 50 Yards......... Still at $2,499.00 , No thanks.

Aww, c'mon. Many 1911 owners put $2500 into their guns just so they can shoot under 2 inches at 50 yards, and they don't complain a bit. :D

Well you have those guys over at rimfirecentral.com who "invest" a grand or so into thier 10/22's, WhY... I dont know I never got the "Bug"... Myabe those guys like to drive in nails with thier .22's....

For Compition... I can see people wanting the best of the best of the best....

But for a Home Defence, Self Defence gun, I dont see the point....

(P.S. Look for my review + Range Report on the Colt Government XSE comming Monday/Tuesday)

I often hear the argument "how much is your life worth?" and "$3000 for a handgun is a good life insurance policy" when it comes to expensive or customized handguns. However I don't see the point either. As long as a handgun is reliable and durable, and chambered for a reasonably effective cartridge you're no safer if it cost $5000 than if it was $500.

Getting back to the subject at hand, it appears the X-Five is nothing more than a P226 hot-rodded for IPSC competition, so the market for it is bound to be small. Of more concern to me is SIG's recent tendency to make limited numbers of trendy "designer" handguns with such features as glossy purple slides and laminated grips. Whenever I see a manufactuer do that I fear they're losing the desire to concentrate on no-nonsense practical weapons that work.

/Agree

Perhaps when My shooting skills go up to the point where my firearm is LESS accurate then I am, perhaps I will think about investing that much money into a firearm.

P.S. If you look at gunbroker.com they have a few for sale thier. So they are out there, and they are available.

Hi,
do not bash the X-Five.

Thats an excellent gun!!!

Minimal recoil, perfect ergonomy, deadly accurate, hi-cap magazine, beautifully made, totally reliable. OUT-OF-THE-BOX!

It was aimed to European target/ipsc gun market, not for home defence or such. If you can get licence only for 1-2 handguns, the price will be an unimportant factor.

If you compare its price to an STI sport-M1911, the price will be realistic.

The X-Five is simply not for the Makarov-buyers.

I wasn't intending to bash, I have been trying to find a dealer with a NIB X-Five and there just don't seem to be any. I was just wondering if Sig misread the market and that's why they are not getting imported to the US.

It may be that they are selling so well no one can keep them too.

That's what I was trying to judge, what quantity were they out there.

It is an top-of-the-line product, so it is natural, not to produce so large quantity of them, than pistols with one third of its price.

And as I mentioned, most the production is sold in Europe. I bet, that much less P239 or P245 are sold here, than X-Fives.

But believe me, if you can find one, and SHOOOOOT it, you will fall in love instantly!

I'm already in love with X-Five and I've only seen pictures.

This is the first I've heard of a shortage of them. Check www.ordnanceoutsellers.com ; last I heard they were in stock there.

I've also heard rumor of a price cut to around $1500 and the inclusion of a DA feature on the newest models, but never actually heard of anyone buying those yet.

A number of people on SIGForum have them, and bought theirs as SAO at $2500 afaik.

It is entirely a competition gun. I wouldn't even consider using it for self defense if I had one.

Yes, a DA/SA (decocker) version (IPSC Production-class) was introduced on IWA-2005, but I have not seen production version yet. That gun will be less pricey of course.

There is also a 6" version, the X-Six for bullseye target only.

The price here is about 2000-2200 euros, so the 2500 dollars is reasonable.

The X5 looks amazing, very sexy.

For that kind of money, I'd rather have a P210. I imagine it still can't be touched for it's accuracy and glass trigger. I guess if you need the capacity for the games though, the X5 might be the way to go.

For that kind of money, for that type gun, give me an STI.

STI is proven, and has tons of support, aftermarket and factory. Lot's of people know how to customize and/or repair them.

I must admit, the X5 does look nice.
