I see all these warnings on Kimbers about do not attempt to install new sights without sight press tool the combat sights that came on my new Ultra II look like they have been pressed so hard there distorted are these sights plastic can any of you guys give me any tips I sure hate to give Kimber 149.00 for a pair of 89.00 sights.

For the price of a Kimber, those sights had better not be plastic. :scrutiny: A magnet will quickly tell you if they are steel. Most likely, the sight groove is a little undersize and/or the sight oversize and it was mashed over pressing it in (which is unacceptable at any price).

149 bucks for a sight install seems pretty steep to me unless they are making cuts on the frame for some reason.

Sights are NOT hard to install if you don't have to make cuts on the slide, however, it does take patience and attention to detail to ensure you don't remove more material than necessary.

I put Meps on my UCII, the originals came off hard! I fitted the new sights so they installed alot easier, but still tight enough. Sand the new sight bases, with sandpaper on glass or something flat, untill they go in 1/3 of the way by finger pressure. If it matters, I drove the old sights left to right, and new ones right to left.

The sights on mine are of steel and cannot be moves without a sight press and my favorite gunsmith who happily makes the move for me [free]...I buy firearms from him from time to time...

Don't go cheap on sights or the installation of them. Proper 1911 sights need to be fitted. Pressing them on can be disastrous in the best of times.

Kimber fixed sights are installed with a 20 ton press. If you plan on removing the old ones without a sight pusher you better get a big hammer.

The front sight on my Tactical Pro fell out during a range session. The local smith pressed it back in after dimpling the dovetail and adding some loctite. Guess there is one in every crowd. :- )
