I go this "Bright Sight" paint set at a gun show. It was new and unopened. the directions say to clean the target area with the cleaner provided, paint the desired area, and let dry for 24 hours.

When I did that everything looked good. As I was peeling the masking tapes off used to protect adjacent areas to the front sight hood the tiniest bit of it made contact with the paint and ALL the paint pulled off like a giant scab.

It doesn't give me much confidence in the staying power and/or durability of the "Bright Sight" paint. Did I do something wrong? Is there a better way, do you think, to handle this?

Been using Bright Sights for a few years now and I agree that taping off the area does not work most of the time. It took a few tries before I got my technique just right, especially on front sight ramps. Here's what I do: clean and degrease area well and allow to dry completely. Shake the holy heck out of the paint then apply sparingly - to fill in white dot sights I put in multiple layers of paint with a toothpick. Otherwise I use modelers paint brushes to apply the paint lightly in several layers. Don't worry so much about overspray, etc. at this time. After letting it dry completely I go back with a razor blade and remove any overspray, etc. Works like a charm.

About the longevity of the paint - the only reason I have needed to reapply the paint is if I got oil or solvent on the paint. I have not had any of it fly off while shooting. It lasts quite a while in my experience. Much longer than the other methods I have tried in the past. That one kit should last me and a few shooting buds a lifetime.
