I know that longer sight radiuses are more accurate, but what about speed?

It seems to me that having a longer sight radius would make it slower to line them up. Has anyone experimented with this? Does it make any difference?

Between say a normal AR carbine sight radius and a 20" AR radius, for fast shooting at close up targets?

Good question.

I am not aware of any speed shooting sport where they intentionally use a shorter than normal sight radius to gain speed.

there are still two points to line up with a target. I do not think it would matter much, if at all. The reason a scope is quicker is because there's one plane with your entire sight picture in it, which has nothing to do with length. I know that I'm quicker lining up a rifle sight than a pistol's much shorter sights. That's probably because I don't shoot pistols as often, though.

Front sight distance won't matter much, as speed is nearly entirely determined by other factors, but a longer sight radius and/or more distant front sight would be slightly preferred.

There is this thing used in 3gun, but I think rail space is the issue rather than sight radius in the design.
