For a while now I have been shopping for a scope that will shoot out to 1000 yards, but have struggled with price and magnification as well as available elevation adjustment range, as most high powered scopes in my price range ($500) don't offer more than 50 MOA in overall elevation adjustment.

Last week I ordered the Sightron 20x42mm, and today I took it to the range to zero at 300 yards. I previously zeroed the rifle at 75 yards at home and then cranked in the additional calculated elevation for 300 yards today at the range.

After 5 rounds down range the scope was zeroed at 300 yards. Next I fired 10 rounds to see how the scope would group. Those 10 rounds grouped at 2 5/8 inches, just under MOA at that range. If I exclude the one round that I wiggled on, the 9 round group measured 1 3/4 inches.

I did not take the scope through a box test due to time constraints, but 9 rounds in under 2 inches at 300 yards is sufficient evidence of repeatability for now.

All rounds were fired from prone position off bipod and rear bag rest. Rifle is a Remington 700 .308 Winchester shooting a 175 Sierra Matchking at 2625 fps.

Clarity on the scope is at least as good if not better than my Bushnell 10x40mm. At double the power with essentially the same size objective that equates to very good clarity on an overcast day.

I am very pleased with the scope and its performance. If you are in the market for a very good fixed power scope, take a look at this one.

UPDATE...
Went shooting with a friend this past weekend and took my Rem 700 .308 Win with Sightron scope. We were shooting a metal plate at 550 yards most of the day, and my Rem 700 with SIII scope consistently struck the 16 inch metal plate within 6 inches of center. I fired one 3-round group on paper from 550 yards and it measured about 5 inches.

It was a sunny day with some thermals and a varying wind. The thermals didn't cause the 20x42 Sightron any problems, and the wind wasn't a major factor. The scope clarity at that range was still very good, and the scope stayed on zero through about 60 rounds at 550 yards with no apparent drifting in elevation or windage.
