As part of my campaign to change WA State law to allow silencer use I am going to make a video to educate people on silencer use. As many people, gun owners and legislators included think silencers are illegal, it is important to correct their misconceptions. Washington State is the only one of the 37 states that allows silencer ownership but prohibits use. I plan to send DVD's to my legislators when it is finished. Hopefully this will convince them to let House bill 1604 go the House floor for a vote next session.

My video will mainly consist of speaking into the camera about silencer history and NFA law. I will also show some of the forms associated with registering them, basic construction and some footage of the difference between suppressed and unsuppressed shooting.

I posted a script here; http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54606&highlight= . I have some silencer footage here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2MQBO-IGo8 Comments and criticism are very much welcome. If anyone has mpeg footage they would be willing to let me use in my video, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I updated the video link with the latest version so far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2MQBO-IGo8 I have posted on other forums with requests for mpeg video of other suppressed weapons in action, but have only received links to other flv type files with permission to use. I want to make a near DVD quality video to send to my legislators, so I need mpeg. Anyone help? Thanks.

Nice video, the wind noise is a bit distracting but not too bad. Do you prefer calling them silencers? I think suppressors is a little more appropriate…

The video sucks, but it was the best I could do considering my limited camera experience, the weather, and the rare opportunites I get to leave WA state and even use the silencers. This is why I am asking for any mpeg footage others may be willing to contribute.

In the video I will be referring to them as suppressors and moderators. but explain that silencer is the legal term used by the federal government. I use the term silencer on forums and everyday usage because everyone knows that silencer means a gun muffler, but suppressor can mean sound suppressor or flash suppressor.

This might seem like picking nits, but the lack of eye protection on the young girl and older gentleman in the second video bothers me. I get that they're not wearing ear pro because they've got the suppressors on, but if I'm an anti looking at this video, I see a young girl shooting a gun with zero safety equipment.

IMHO, playing up the safety factor in this situation is a GOOD thing. The more we can appear to be sane, responsible, SAFE individuals, the better.

The man wearing the yellow accented jacket never takes his finger off of the trigger whether he's shooting or not shooting.

The wind noise should be edited out. Is is distracting enough to detract from the excellent commentary.

Suppressor should be the term used instead of "silencers". Not only is it technically incorrect to call a noise reduction device for firearms a silencer it creates the wrong impression that it silences the report of the firearm. UNLESS your specific intent is for the public to become educated to the fact that the device, regardless of what it is called, actually does not silence a firearm.

Other than those two issues it's an excellent effort.

Actually they both wear prescription eye glasses and we were also wearing ear plugs most of the time, and at all times in the video. I normally wear just my eyeglasses instead of safety glasses when at the range. But I understand what you are saying.

I corrected my brother on his trigger finger, but the parts of the video currently in the clip are the best out of a bad bunch I took that day due to the wind. I had high hopes going to the Boulder range last week, but the wind ruined it.

In the finished video I plan on describing them as suppressors. I will mention that they are known legally as silencers according to federal law. A major part of the video will be that while they greatly reduce noise, they never make a gun silent.

I just spent ten minutes in front of the camcorder and made some more footage. Keep in mind that this is just a rehearsal, hence the boring background, no shave, unwashed hair and stumbling dialog.

The entire video will be remade after I get a new camcorder. The voice-overs used when displaying the photos and forms were made with a cheap microphone, but they sound far better than the camcorder microphone. This should improve when I get the new camcorder with an external microphone.

The footage of my lathe are still photos I took of already completed parts from my 300 whisper can, the rifle is my 300 whisper Contender.

I want to include a bit about the ATF form 4, but will keep it very brief and reduce the time spent on the form 1. I need to set up a stand to hold my script in front of me so that my eyes remain towards the camera. I also need to run through the whole thing repeatedly so that I do not stumble over the words. I need to change the script so that I say suppressor instead of silencer and firearm instead of weapon.

Would using actual video of turning silencer parts be better? I can take better photos of the silencer parts and rifles for the video. Anyone have suggestions on what photos I should use when talking about Maxim's silencers? So far the suggestions by others on the internet have been very helpful. Thanks.

I really like it! Not bad for a first pass! Can't wait to see it polished up!

You're doing something really useful -- good on' ye! :)

I made a clip of the images and animations with voice-overs that I want to use in the video.

I rendered it as a VCD to take up less room than the DVD format I need to make everything come out clearer in the final version. Any comments? Thanks.
