Long story short - had a bunch of Suppressors I was supposed to take care of in a different state prior to my recent move.

My current FFL has received them and we went through some hoops using SilencerShop's Kiosk system, buying a $125 One - Shot Trust in the process. They basically held my hand and walked me through the entire process, and due to that - I never really truly understood what was going on.

Now - while I've HEARD of this process and casually read on it at one time or another - my mindset's still stuck in the usual route of having the local Sheriff sign some papers and mailing the forms to the BATFE with a bunch of checks - which is what I did with my prior Suppressors and SBRs.

Is there a quick guide explaining what actually occurs, and more importantly - what the pitfalls and disadvantages are as far as the Kiosk system is concerned?

First, its a "Single Shot Trust". meaning you'll have a separate trust for each silencer. The trust will be named after the serial# of your silencer, ex "Dead Air Mask HD 01234 Trust".
The Single Shot Trust is submitted with just your name, so only one background check to run vs trusts with multiple members having every member submit prints photos and the RP questionnaire. While https://www.silencershop.com/how-to-buy-a-silencer is written as if you are buying from SS or one of their Powered By Dealers, the process is essentially the same.
In 2016, the requirement for the CLEO signature disappeared, and now its notification only....he just gets a copy of your NFA form.

All the "kiosk system" does is scan your fingerprints and can take some basic demographic information. Fingerprints, photo and the Responsible Person questionnaire are required for everyone named in your trust at the time of application, as well as individual applicants.
Any dealer equipped with a fingerprint scanner can scan your prints, Silencer Shop is a distributor that sells or leases their kiosk to dealers.

Hey, thanks.

I was in the process of reading the sticky up here...

https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-trusts-and-lawyer-drafted-gun-trusts.719848/

Any downside to what I assume are SilencerShop's "Generic" Trusts?

What're you seeing with eFiled Form 4s that used that Trust of theirs?
I've only had one eForm 4 approved and it was expedited for active duty military. He used a trust.

There is zero difference in processing times for a trust vs individual..........but if the trust has multiple Responsible Persons then there may be delays in running multiple background checks. A Single Shot Trust with one RP is exactly the same number of background checks as an individual.

Over the last ten years I've never seen a pronounced difference between trust vs individual paper Form 4's.

The NFA Tracker is not ATF statistics, but transferee submitted. Knowing that many transferees have no idea when their F4 is actually submitted means that website is junk. Some assume its the date they paid for the silencer. Nope.
More than a few transferees don't know the difference between trust and individual. At least once a week someone will call and ask about an "individual trust" Form 4 they submitted last year.o_O

This speaks very highly of firearm owners...

No.
And I don't think Silencer Shop should be publicizing such aberrations on processing. It's waaaaaaay to early to get excited.
I have received one eForm 4 that was expedited for military and took only a couple of weeks. Bragging about that is counterproductive if not downright dishonest.
ATF did the same thing when the original eForms came out.....they bragged about how fast forms were being processed, but ignored the fact that the majority were not being processed any faster.

I've had batch approvals where the customers first paper F4 was approved after eight months and ATF then approved another eight of the same customers F4's that were less than two months in. I ain't gonna make a video about two month form 4's.

Yeah, I'm on day 10 and I'm realistic about my expected wait. I'll just be happy if it is less than 6 months. The paper Form 4 guys are averaging 11-12 months so anything is an improvement.

I wish every customer had this attitude.

HAHA!. Don't really have much choice, do I? I'm still checking every week just in case. You never know, I might be that lucky guy with a 2 week eform4. I could happen : o_O
