Silly 1911 barrel question

I'm pretty new to 1911s (and only have used low-end ones at that), and have a silly question. I see bull barrels advertised as not needing a barrel bushing. Okay, larger diameter, fills up the space the bushing would... but what keeps the recoil spring cap in place if there's no bushing? There's got to be a part there, right?

Bull barrel guns use a flanged or collared recoil spring plug inserted from the rear. The recoil spring tunnel in the slide has to have the shoulder reamed out to clear it and either a counterbore for the collar or an .070" clearance cut made for the flange. Most use a full length guide rod drilled for a pin to capture the plug and spring on the rod so it goes in and comes out as a complete assembly.
 
Thanks. I'll just have to look at parts in the Brownells catalogue to see how that would work, I still can't picture it.
