I have been working on this load development for a while now. I ran a ladder test and decided to try 47.3 grains, the flat spot you see in the graph. I loaded two sets of 5 rounds at this charge, one at a.010" longer oal than the first. I was amazed when I looked at the numbers on the chrono. Out of 5 shots 3 were at 2824 fps and the other two were 2818 fps. ES of only 6 fps!

I've been loading for about ten years now and this is a first for me, I'm pretty excited about it.
Almost forgot,
7mm-08 in a compact CVA Scout 20" barrel
Ramshot Big Game
Sierra Pro Hunter 140 grain

Strangely enough the only gun I’ve ever had repeatable single digit extreame spreads with is my 444 marlin with hard cast.

Nice results! What are you using to weigh charges for your ladder? And which chronograph? And of course as the others asked - the million dollar question - how was the group size?

Cool. How accurate are they?

Not that great to be honest. 3/5 went into about 1/2" but then the other two opened up the group to 1 1/4" or so I didn't bother to measure. I'm using a 2x7 scope, and I was struggling with my home made sand bags and Herter's shooting table to feel comfortable and steady, so I blame these things for most of it. But then I did just have to go get glasses recently too and didn't have them with me.

This load does show a lot of promise though if I can do my part behind the trigger.

I'm using an RCBS Range Master 750 electronic scale, I hand trickle the last .3 grains for consistency. My chrono is a Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital.

i'm guessing the rifle, not the nut behind the trigger. break-open rifles are not very consistent right out of the box. i have a handi rifle in .223 rem that shot 1.5 moa out of the box. i worked on a few things and now, with the right load, is a consistent .75 moa shooter.

don't get down on yourself until you let another good shot shoot that rifle.

luck,

murf
