All,
As someone who has 3 family members in college and high schools, I am looking for a good book(s) explaining how to put yourself in the best situation at all times. Something like what you should be looking for when in public places, where to sit. Things that keep you aware of your surroundings.
Unfortunately, Illinois is a non carry state and so are educational institutions, so incorporating that part into self defense is not a legal option.

I've searched and seen the books by Cooper and Massad Ayoob. Do those offer advice other than armed?

Thanks

I don't really believe that a book will be able to teach you situational awareness because it is a sense that needs to be developed in the real world. The best a book can do is help you better understand technical aspects.

The best types of books that may point you in the right direction may be some nature oriented books such as:

Tracking books such as by Tom Brown; or introduction books to birdwatching.

I think that martial arts training (not books) are the only real way you can develop this.
