My dad bought a Norinco Chinese SKS and shot it only once before, and from what I could tell today he had only disassembled the gun to clean the barrell and nothing more than that after shooting it. Since it has been sitting in the closet for years I thought it could use a good day at the range. So today I proceeded to clean it, before taking it to the range possibly tomorrow.
The entire disassembly was really easy until it came to removing the Gas Cylinder Tube. As instructed I moved the gas cylinder tube latch to the 10 o'clock position. When I went to pull it off by grabbing the rear of it on the wooden part while pivoting it on the front, the rear of it barely moved. So I double checked the position of the latch and it was in the correct position for removal. I finally used the handle of a plastic tooth brush to basically pry it up, and it worked. I found more than a healthy helping of cosmoline in the gas cylinder, and fully cleaned that out according to the instructions.
To reassemble the gas cylinder tube back onto the gun it took a good amount of work. It is positioned fine and the latch fuctions properly. Is this a common occurence for it to fit so tight?
