If you were faced with an econimical hardship right now, what would you do.Sell a near mint Chinese Cowboy's Companion or an excellent cond. Yugo? Both cost $150.00 retail.Thanks.tom.

You should be able get more money for the Norinco (I'm thinking $200-250 around here, $275-$325 if its minty, has all the original accessories and box). The Norinco will be a lot harder to replace though. On the other hand it will sell easier. If you can, sell the Yugo. There are a lot of them in country right now and you can replace it. I doubt you could get $150 for it though. Maybe about $100 if it's minty and it might not sell quick.

It is a bad time to sell Yugo SKSs. There are too many of them on the market to get a good price. It is a great time to buy them, however.:D

Keep the Yugo sell the Chinese if you have to sell one. The Yugo is a better made gun and I think in time, the price will climb higher than the current price for the Chinese SKS. The Chinese is not going to shoot up in price like the Yugo will. Once supply runs out of the Yugos, they will jump up in price fast until they reach a reasonable level. The Chinese SKS has already had it's price increase after the boom of importation stopped. Expect the same to happen in a few years to the Yugos.

I have a Russian SKS that is worth about $400 but nobody would pay that much for one because of all the $100-$180 Yugo and Norinco SKS rifles out there.

SKS prices are probable going to stay the same for years to come and aren't worth selling IMHO.

I got in on the recent AIM special. $79 shipped for a shooter grade Yugo SKS. They ran out the day mine shipped. You should be able to find a shooter or excellent grade for $80-100 +shipping.

albanian, prices on the chinese SKS have risen steadily since the ban. The cowboys companion is one of the more desireble SKS out there. The yugos will never get to see prices like the Chinse guns. Yugos are cheap and will stay that way. Chinese SKSs are much better made than the yugos.
deputy Tom if you have to sell one sell the yugo...you wont be able to replace the cowboy....and if you try it will cost more than you sell it for to replace. I have a preban paratrooper that I can get $400 for right now.
Its unfired and has all the original goodies. I cant remember but did they make any cowboys that took the AK mags????? if it does its worth even more.

deputy tom, hopefully you won't have to sell either but if you can I probably would hang on to the paratrooper because it will be harder to replace.
NevadaPistolero I have 2 chinese and 2 yugos sitting here at the house. They all shoot equally well but the yugos are definately machined better and the stocks are better wood. Now if I had to carry one around all day it would be a chinese because they are lighter. Mark

Thanks for all the replies.Mine is a Navy Arms Cowboy's Companion. It has the typical fixed 10 rd mag.,No bayo. lug, relief in stock for bayo. filled by them, etc.I'm not sure if these have the collector's appeal of the type M or D with detatchable mags or the bayo like the Paratroopers have.Sure is a handy, light little carbine tho.tom.

deputy tom, after seeing the importer Navy Arms you need to read this, its very important.... Arms recalls.....theres a problem with the sear, id just replace the whole trigger group. You can find a new trigger group for around $35.00.

Wanna bet?

"Chinese SKSs are much better made than the yugos."

What are you baseing this on? You must be seeing some pretty fine Chinese SKSs or some pretty poor examples of Yugo SKSs because every Yugo I have seen and owned has been very well made. I have seen a bunch of Chinese made SKSs and the quality does vary greatly. Some Chinese SKSs are every bit as well finished and machined as some Yugos but your average Chinese SKS is not going to be nearly as well made as your average Yugo.

What do you have against the Yugo? Is it because it is inexpensive right now? If it sold for $300, would you think it was better made than the Chinese? What parts are not as well made on them? How is the Chinese SKS better?
