A friend and I were shooting his new yugo SKS. We had done a pretty thorough job of cleaning out the gunk, etc. Problem is, the gun stovepiped just about every round. The ammo was good as I had shot a bunch out of my Norinko SKS.

Any idea or direction as to what the problem may be?

The gas valve in the Yugo 59/66's are usually the problem. Was the valve in the correct position? Is it corroded and leaking? That could be the problem. Check out this link for a fix:

Also, make absolutely sure the cosmo is COMPLETELY cleaned out of the mag well, gas piston area, all springs, etc.

I take it it has the factory 10rd fixed mag? If it has any kind of detachable aftermarket mag, I would bet anything that's the problem. If it's the factory 10 you have on there, it's probably the gas valve or cosmo somplace it shouldn't be.

Thanks Lonestar .45. I will pass the info along. the fix in the post sounds like it will do the trick.
