Thinking of doing a little customizing to my Russian SKS, been looking at the T6 stock from Tapco and I'm intrigued. Also looking at the new plastic 20rd mag they offer. Anybody have some feedback on these items?

I have one that's in transit via ups to be delivered Tuesday. My reasearch on the finer points came up with the following. Firstly the stock has a rail on the top forend grip to allow scout type scopes to be installed. This rail has a slot milled through it to allow the use of the iron sights. I'm guessing that the buttstock will allow eye alignment and cheek weld for iron sights but the scope will likely have me looking for some kind of cheek piece. That being said, the SKS scope base that they are also selling looks like it's mounted way up high so I'd rather have the scout scope and keep the stripper clip capability. Make sure that you order a stock based on whether or not you plan to leave your bayonnet or not. There is no price difference between the bayonett cut versions and those without. According to some THR's who own SKS's so stocked, the T6 requires a minimal filing job to get everything to cooperate however its still a good fit.

hate to spoil the party

but I think the T6 is no good, just dont like the feel of it. I've tried a few sk stocks and my fav has ended up as the custom colored original wood with buttstock extension. just MHO, of course

What about the T6 on a Norinco?

Has anyone installed a T6 on on a Norinco? I'm thinking about changing out the wood on mine.

So now that I've played with my T6 stock I'd say there are definite pros and cons.

Pros,

It's better looking,
It has a pistol grip
The collapsable feature is very nice.
The storage compartment in the grip and the sling swivel in the buttstock are both nicer than I'd have expected.

Cons,

The rear half of the buttstock has a noticable rattle in all positions.
The scout scope rail allows the use of iron sights however it does make it harder to use them.
The "cheek weld" is ambigious at best for either scope or irons.
The blade bayonnet will affect your forend grip even on the slotted T-6 stocks.
The "S.A.W." style grip is appreciably too acute a grip angle as compared to the M16 type.

All in all I'd buy another one for an SKS that wasn't valuable otherwise. For me having appropriate length of pull is a big deal so this stock is a good buy. Considering the price it could have been better executed however I'll admit that it didn't take any special fitting aside from the gas tube cover which had more to do with rusted in pins than anything Tapco did. The balance of the rifle is just ahead of the magazine making two handed shooting relatively fast provided your off hand is close to the mag.

Everything I've read about replacement magazines for the SKS included how they aren't as reliable as the original, plus most/all preclude the bolt lock open feature which is so important to me that I won't own an AK!

Im pretty happy with my T6. Have not had any problems at all. For guys with long arms like me, its perfect. Next week I should receive the 20 rd detachable mag and I will like that even more.
