Hey guys , I have a situation with a local skunk whom leaves nearby , it has sprayed my dog about 5 times now (dog don't learn), I want to just shoot the darn thing but its in a residential area, think 1 acre lots, I think I read that Texas says to relocate a skunk I have to be a licensed pest control operator but that seems sort of un needed for just a skunk, anyone know the full story on this one ?

How about a bow and arrow or pellet gun? You're in Texas!! You should be able to call your neighbors and everything should be copacetic. Or contact pest control and have them come trap it.

Skunks hate moth balls place at 3' apart along fences or around buildings will keep them out,If they are under buildings wait till night time after they have left.

I have a crap-ton of experience with this. I trap or kill about 10-12 skunks/yr.

In most states, you only need to be licensed if you are trapping with a leg-grab trap, or for money.

Go to Tractor Supply, or whatever ag store you have there and get a live trap. Put either some chicken, or some Peanut butter and jam on a piece of bread, and use that as bait. Skunks love both, cat/dog food also works, but not as well.

When you trap the skunk, (and you will). Approach very slowly, holding up an old sheet, or very large, old towel. If the skunk starts to stomp his front paws, back off. Approach from the side, so the skunk can't aim its tail at you. I have ever only had a skunk spray once, after I was able to drape the towel/sheet over the cage, (and that was a rabid skunk).

Once you have the skunk covered, transport in the back of a truck to a safe place, and shoot it, or drown it. You can try to let it go. I have a few times, and they aren't very grateful.

I know a guy who owns a large farm, tons of skunk problems, he sets about 7-8 traps every night spring -fall. He just lets the skunks sit out in the sun, and swears they are always dead by afternoon, so long as daytime temps are in the 80s. He says they never spray that way, but I just don't have the heart to let them die for 4 hrs.

If you shoot it, it will spray. They nearly always do. I've heard, "If you kill it quick, it won't spray." That's BS. I have literally blown a skunk's head off and 10 seconds later.... it sprayed.

If it sprays in the back of your truck, wash it ASAP, that spray will eat paint.

This being a gun forum, I figure it's ok to suggest shooting it. I have had neighbors get squeamish about the fact that I shoot skunks, until they come face to face with one in their garage, or have one kill their chickens; then they don't care so much about me shooting them anymore.

Cover your live trap ahead of time, they don't spray when covered. There are plastic opaque traps available that are made specifically for skunks. Pick up trap and drop in stock tank.
220 Conibers will shut them down before they can turn loose of the stink, ususally.

I trap them then see if there Houdini.... None have been able to hold their breath long enough. Then I feed them to the Vultures. I have a poison mix that will kill them within 5' of drinking it. But you have to be very careful with it for domestic cats like the taste too. If your interested PM me and I will tell you formula.
