"Small of Back" Holster for 4" XD9

So I already ordered a CrossBreed Supertuck. I haven't received it yet so... I have a cheapy Uncle Mikes IWB that I have been using to keep the gun in when it is in the car door pocket, just to keep the trigger covered and protect, the gun from scratches etc. I am right handed and the Uncle Mike's is a lefty, but I didn't care because I didn't buy it to be a carry holster. Well, the last two days I have used it to carry in the "small of back" and I liked that carry position.

Can you guys suggest a good quality "small of back" holster? I want to have more than one carry option.

The small-of-back (SOB) holster typically carries the gun nearly horizontally, with the grip pointing up and to your strong side, in the center of your back. One of this type is the High Noon Bottom Line or the similar (but different materials and cheaper) Back Skin. You can also wear a IWB holster vertically in the middle of your back. You would need one for the opposite hand (i.e., left handed holster for right handed shooter and vice versa, or the grip will face the wrong direction), carried vertically or reverse angled (butt to rear). Galco makes - or made - one of this type called a MOB (middle of the back), but their site is down.

There are several serious drawbacks to this carry. A hard object over your spine can injure you badly if you get knocked on your back and fall on it. If you move it off your spine and over your kidney, there is no real advantage over a more conventionally located IWB. You also have to push your trigger finger between your gun and shirt to draw. If you regularly sit on a chair, sofa or similar furniture, or drive a vehicle, the gun will be trapped.

I have a High Noon IWB and it is not bad.

However, I have really come to prefer my elastic belly band. I got it through The Sportsman's Guide. I comes set up for left and right side gun holders. I had my wife (good with a sewing machine) move one of the holders to the back and turned the other gun holder into a spare magazine holder. Now I can put it on with the gun in the small (or off to the side a bit) of my back. You can adjust it side to side and up and down to find the most comfortable fit. Nothing shows outside my pants and nothing is hanging on my pants or belt. Also, I think it is more concealed becase the elastic pulls the gun into my body rather than being pushed out against my belt and pants like standard IWB holsters do. It is cheap to try out. Mine was the 4" belt and was $21.45 including shipping and insurance.

A true "SOB" carry rig is slow and dangerous.

This a holster by GALCO I use it to carry a Ruger SP-101 for which it is just excellent. Conventional wisdom warns agains wearing this rig directly over the spine and it is probably good advice. However, moved to the right (I am right handed) the combo makes for a very safe, secure, and comfortable carry.
