anyone out there own or have experience carrying both a 1911 and a smith and wesson M@P I'm looking into both for a carry gun just looking for comments or advice/ reviews on both guns as carry guns

well, i don't have the m&p, but i have several 1911's and have or have had multiple polymer guns such as the XD, Walther P99, Sig Pro, etc, and NOTHING carries as comfortably as a nice slim 1911, which IMO is about the nicest fullsize handgun to carry made. That's not to say I don't still carry a polymer at times if I'm expecting rough weather or circumstance where I don't want to beat up my 1911's or just because I feel like it, but the thickness generally equates to either a bit less easy to conceal or less comfort, depending on the holster.

I've done both. I prefer the M&P, especially when comparing pistols of equal cost. To get a 1911 of equal reliability to my M&Ps will cost me several M&Ps worth of dinero.

I also vastly prefer the striker-fired action for its consistent trigger pull and lack of a safety. I have not noted a comfort difference between the two.
