smith and wesson

i recently got a smith and wesson .38 special from my grandfather and i am trying to identify the model. so far i know it is a square but fixed sight 3 screw frame i really would like to know what model and year of manufacture any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your S&W was made after 1957, there is a short cut that will enable you to help yourself. Open the cylinder, on the crane or frame under the cylinder there will be a Model number, such as Mod 10/12 or what ever. If it was manufactured prior to 1957, yes, more information is definitely needed.
