Many here are MUCH more expert than myself when it comes to the esoterics of "what/how/why" performance issues.

I'm an old shooter returning after a 15 year absence. So you can definitely classify my knowledge base as novice.

But FWIW, my Sigma in 9mm is about 3 months old. Made sure I gave it a thorough cleaning before using it. To date, have about 300 rounds through it.

Had exactly 5 "stovepipes" in the first 100 rounds (3 in the first two mags alone).

Cleaned it again after the first 50 rounds. Then again after the 2nd batch of 50.

Haven't had any jams of any kind in the subsequent 200 rounds. But DID have the slide kinda hang for a bit before recovering (two times in rounds 101 through 200)....once for a split second, the second time it hung there til I tapped it with the left palm.

Seems to be breaking in fine. Haven't had ANY issues the last 100 rounds. Good machine. Accurate for such a cheap little gun.

I like it. But ask someone who has roughly the same gun budget as you and me (obviously we do, you're considering the same gun as me)....but who's put more rounds through it. And/Or someone who has a broad collection up and down the food chain.

Hope this helps!

Innitial Sigma's were picky as to ammunition. My departments Sigma's were given a steady diet of Hydra Shoks with no problems. Reloads were iffy. The later "enhanced" models are great if cleaned on a regular basis. I've had one for years as a duty gun and only experienced one stovepipe out of hundreds of misc. rounds.

I have owned 4 or 5 sigmas in 40 and 9mm. All have ran very well. as a ccw they are great little guns. the trigger pull stinks but s&w will do a free trigger job on it for you, or at least the older ones they would. the trigger though is no worse than MOST ccw based guns. if you don't mind the trigger everything else is good to go. they are cheap and people love to hate them, but all mine have been accurate as I can shoot, and that isn't great and it isn't bad either. get one and enjoy it if thats all you can afford. if spending a little more is in your budget you find guns you'll like a lot better

The Sigma is a outstand value for a hi-cap 9mm. You also get S&W great customer service if anything goes wrong. I've had zero problems with mine. Solid gun for the money. Shoots everything I've loaded and Trigger isn't as bad as the web makes it to be.I guess people want a $800 trigger on a $300 gun. Did I say it's a great value.

I have one in 40 cal and love it. The trigger was gritty and hard, sent back to S&W and was returned in less than 2 weeks with very good trigger. If you shoot DA the trigger won't bother you at all. Excellent gun for the money.

I have one, put around 300 rounds through it, no problems at all. I bought it new.
its a ve and I bought it 3 weeks ago. Love it, the trigger is gritty but I dont mind the hard trigger pull. Because its all I know, this is my first gun and I love it.

I bought mine about 2 weeks ago, and put about 300 rds through it so far. Not one malfunction or hiccup. I love it so far. I can't understand the hate they get, the trigger has not been a problem for me at all. I actually went with this over a used Glock 19, and it was still $125 cheaper.

Actually, the only problem I had was S&W accidentaly sent me the 10 rnd mags instead of the 16. The hassle of sending everything back and not having my firearm dissuaded me from complaining.

My buddy bought a Sigma 40 and I recently got to put a few mags through it. I must say, for the money, it is a fine firearm for defensive situations. The trigger pull is pretty crappy, but you will have no problem hitting a bad guy in the chest at 25 yards with it. If you want to pride yourself with 2" groups at 25 yards, it isn't the weapon for you, but if you need something to get the job done, I think it's a great firearm!

I teach pistol classes and bought two Sigmas to use as "loaner" guns for my classes. They have been used by students with varying degrees of experience. I have never had a malfunction from either pistol. Not a single one.

IMHO, the Sigma is one of the great pistol bargains available.

I've owned a 40ve Sigma for several years now. I've shot thousands of rounds through it with no ftfs at all. For the money you can't beat it. Having said that I carry a Glock 27 as my CC gun. I keep a Glock 21sf in my nightstand. But I would & have trusted my life to the Sigma I own. Many people can't get past the 12lbs trigger. I stuck with it & became a better shooter for it.

I've put a 1K-2k rounds through my Sigma 9ve since I bought it about 4 months ago. I've never had ONE problem with feeding, accuracy, ejecting, nothing. I've used many kinds of ammo, none of them have been high dollar. I've even put a couple hundred hollow points through it, to make sure I can depend on it to stop an intruder, since it's my nightstand gun. Again, not one issue, ever. Field stripping takes about 5 seconds, reassembly is about the same. I keep her clean and lightly oiled.

I got mine new on sale at Academy for... $260-280, I don't remember exactly. I've never once regretted buying it.

By the way, as far as the gritty trigger pull... It's kind of inherent to the only "safety" being in the trigger. You have to mean to pull the trigger to fire. Spend some time dry firing it, put a few hundred rounds through it, it'll smooth out a lot. My 5'1", 115 lbs wife was just with me at the range Wednesday. She only fired about ten rounds through the Sigma since we got to the range late. However, at 10 yards, she nailed a clean bullseye and the rest of the ten were inside the first two rings. Small target too. Could she drop a drop a burglar with that gun loaded to 16 rounds? Brother, she could drop four!! :)

Here is my Sigma. It will stay with me. I own a M&P .45 and see no reason to replace my Sigma with a M&P. I did some spring work and polishing on mine. It's 100% reliably. Has the best OEM Factory barrel I've ever owned. And it shoots out great!

Double and Triple tap work at a range in N. Little Rock.

Slide is polished on it. Yeah I know,, bling can be tacky. :)

It's only issue has been a broken extractor. The tight wads at S&W would not send me a new part. But would replace it for free and pay shipping both ways. That right there is some impressive college boy thinking. So I bought one from Numrich, fitted it myself and had it running fast.

That failed at the 5k round mark. Almost all of those rounds where at or better than published reload spec's. It's safe to say this pistol has seen most of its ammo at major+ load ratings.

Here are three targets I shot. Just about as fast as I could pull the trigger. Controlled rapid fire, 25 yards, my loads in the Sigma and PF-9. With the 52 there for color. :)

If you can't kill with a Sigma you can't shoot.

First 5 targets shot with the M&P .45. The Sigma is just as good. :)

If not better in my hands over all. My Sigma barrel is better than my M&P tube.

I feel the Sigma is the very best bang for the buck out there right now. Bar none. If you can get OTD at $300 or under and a have a rebate. You just got the best bang for the buck pistol out there. Do a bit of tuning that will more than likely not cost you a dime if you have 3 brain cells in good working order. And you will be in the game.

Every person I've ever met at a range that says Sigma is awful produce bad targets with there vastly better pistols.

My Sigma will always have a place on my bench! :neener:

Google "pigs ear to silk purse" and you will find a series on my Sigma.

Had one for awhile, I never should have sold it.

Was a great gun, flawlessly reliable, not all that big, at least compared to the CZ-97B and USP-40 I had at the time, shot ok, I was still pretty much self-taught at the time, it shot as well as or better than I did though. Definitely better.

A great buy. Triggers could use a bit of work, but they do get better with age and I think you can even just ask S&W to make it nicer and they'll do it.
