So, just after Christmas, I got a wild hair when I spotted a fair price on a Winchester 1885 Low Wall in .243 Winchester. I had a Savage BVSS that shot dime sized groups at 200 yards with its favorite load of Berger 105 grainers and RL 17 when topped with a 36x Weaver target scope, which I sold some years ago and have regretted ever since....
I bought the 1885. As I still hadn't set up my loading shop, it sat in the safe just looking pretty.
Well, the shop is put together and all the reloading goodies are safely stashed in the cabinets. Time to look a little closer at getting the new toy up and running. DOH! Got to order base & rings! .... Done! Talley does the trick! A little pricey, but what the heck...

Now what about a scope? Well, I have several on hand that can do the trick, including the old 36x Weaver Target Scope.... But this new Low Wall is a pretty little thing and I have always wanted a high quality, medium magnification, variable power scope. Guess what I find! A Swarovski 3.5-18x44 on sale, plus no sales tax, plus free shipping. Total savings of almost $440. I could not resist. One of the very few times I have invested more in the scope than in the rifle! Kind of anxious for the new scope to show up.

BTW, I have a question for the scope aficionados and glass snobs: Is there really that big of a difference between the Swarovski glass and that of Leupold's? (I guess I will find out....)
