SOCOM 16 suppressed - anyone here have one?

I believe the genius of Mr. Garand stands as strongly today as in the 1940's. I have an M1 with is an amazing firearm!


Recently, I found out about the SOCOM 16 platform, and want one badly, except the price tag has me slowed a bit...


Has anyone here ever tried to suppress this weapon? Would enjoy if you would share your experience!

The action is kind of loud. If you're going to shoot subsonics out of it, you're better off building a 300 Blackout. The AR-15 with a 300 Blackout barrel will cycle the action, they make factory subsonic for it, and the action is quieter than the M14 design. (IMVHO.)

They make a muzzle device that will allow you to do it. If I remember right, you cannot just screw one on and be done with it.

Would be a good candidate with supersonic for sure, kill off some of that blast.

OK, here goes. I read a lot about this "suppressed" issue, but I don't really know what it means. Are you guys talking about some sort of silencer? What is the advantage of this suppressed thing? Sorry to be out of the loop. Just want to figure it out. Thanks.

The full term is "sound suppressor" because "silencer" was actually a brand name of one of the first, invented by Hiram Maxim. Even though most people know them as silencers, it's not a very accurate term since it doesn't silence the shot, it just reduces the sound, usually by around 30db.
Some of the advantages is it reduces the bang, the muzzle blast, the recoil, and often allows you to shoot without hearing protection (depending on caliber/velocity) and without disturbing neighbors. Disadvantages are cost, time, and lots of government red tape. They are legal in the majority of states as long as the proper legal process is followed.
They are also great for teaching new shooters to shoot without developing a flinch from the noise and recoil.

The socom would be nice to suppress due to the massive muzzle blast. I am pretty sure the factory flash hider/brake is part of the gas block so the whole block would probably need to be replaced to have a threaded muzzle.

Checked out the you tube vid. The sub sonic ammo is a huge difference and having to cycle the rifle is worth it considering the db reduction. I have the Socom 16 and it provides a loud bang for sure. Makes me want to invest in a can for mine.

An M14 is probably not going to cycle with a suppressor using subsonic ammo.
