Does anyone know if the soft wax gas checks are still available? I bet a lot of you don't even know what they are. I have a sample from the people who used to sell them but haven't seen them advertised in several years. The last time was in "Handloader" magazine.

Anyone ever use them? The first I heard of them was when Mike Venterino did an article in Guns&Ammo on them. You don't need a bullet with a special base to use them either.

I found this:
"Half a pound of beeswax, half a pound of paraffin and a tablespoon of Vaseline gives about the right texture for Baseplate Wax.

Gary"

I used to make my own. They really worked great. Not only would they prevent leading completely, they would clean out a severely leaded bore in 3 or 4 shots. I was using them in .38 S&W where my .358 bullets were undersized. Bore looked like a mirror. Good stuff, just a bit of a pain.

I used straight "Gulf Wax"

Dunno if any one still sells ready made wax gas checks. :)
