We were recently on vacation in the Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg area. Made my usual visit to Smokey Mountain Knife Works and was looking through their firearms section. I've been carrying a Ruger LCP Talo Edition for a little over a year now and really like it for deep concealment. I have been wanting something a little bigger in a 9mm. I initially was looking at a Ruger EC9, but the salesman brought me over to the Springfield section. He said their best deal was on the Springfield XDs 9mm with 2 mags for $334. Also, Springfield is offering a Gear Up promotion running through Dec 31st, where if you buy the gun and do the online sign up with them, they will send you another 3 magazines and a Springfield Range Bag free.

I really liked the feel of this little gun. The fiber optic front sight was very cool and easy to pick up (sight picture), it had the rail for a light attachment if desired, a visual loaded chamber indicator, and came with a 7 round flush seated magazine as well as an 8 round extended mag. The gun has the trigger safety similar to the Glock and also a grip safety. The Gear UP promotion gave me 3 more 8 round extended mags and the Range Bag.

I took it to the range a few days after we got back home and ran about 200 rounds through it without a single hiccup. At 15 yards I was getting a 2 inch grouping, mostly a jagged hole :). I wasn't sure about the grip safety, but didn't really even notice it on the gun when shooting.

Just a personal preference, I did not particularly like the 8 round extended mags. I picked up several more of the 7 round flush magazines from Midway, and 4 more off of Ebay.

All in all this is an awesome little gun. Very accurate, fun to shoot, and easily concealed.

I've carried a springfield xds 4" for years. I've got probably 10k rounds through it and equal or more dry fires.

They discontinued it and will probably rereleased it with the new grip style soon. I like the bit longer barrel for sight radius and really the extra is below the belt during carry.

I will say the trigger will really smooth out around 3k-4k pulls.

Enjoy

I have been carrying an XD-S 3.3 in .40 for over 2 years now. It has been my primary EDC since I got it. Carries well, runs flawlessly, shoots where it is pointed. What more can I ask for?

I like my XD pistols (own a couple) no issues with the grip safety but I have heard it mentioned that if you might need to use it while wearing gloves to check to make sure everything is ok with the gloves on.
Both of mine seem to feed everything I have tried with no issues.

I feel the same about my XDs 45. I shoot it better with the flush magazines.
