Was wondering if any of the members here who are in the tri-county area of South Florida would like to go shooting.

I was hoping to set a date for August 11 or August 12 (Saturday or Sunday)

If anybody is interested, post and we can start talking about range choices, etc. :)

Count me in. I'm in Ft. Lauderdale and would like to spend some time with THR'ers :)

EDIT:

BTW, I think outdoor range would be good. Markham park? Although there is always a wait there. And there MUST be one RO per 4 or 5 shooting stations... lame. Maybe unsupervised outdoor range? BTW, +1 on my wife, she wants to join in.

we've got a few weeks to decide where to meet. Outdoors would be nice, but we'll have to check the weather the week of. Nobody likes changing a target in the rain.

Also, hopefully we can get a whole bunch of people together.

I'd like to go... Unless it's Markham. That place sucks, especially on weekends. I've been looking for an excuse to go to Trail Glades (never been)... But I'm down for whatever ('cept Markham) :)

the reason I'm leaning towards not Markham is that it's hard enough to shoot there if you just go with maybe 1 other person. But for a whole bunch of us to shoot there together could be tough. There'd end up being people waiting to shoot for at least an hour or so and the group would get split up.

I'm a member over at Trail Glades and have shot there often. It's quite nice and gets less traffic than Markham. If we do outdoors, unless Markham will allow us to do a reservation, I'd say we should look at Trail Glades.

Does anybody know of any other open outdoor ranges in the area?

If we do indoor, I was gonna suggest American Gun Range off of Pembroke Road and I-95.

I found information for another outdoor range, but it's WAY down there in BFE:

Henry's Private Range open to the public in Homestead

From Krome Avenue: Krome to Mowry Drive, go West on Mowry all the way to the end. Go across SW 217 Avenue westbound on dirt road. The road splits in front of a small house, turn right in front of the house. Turn left at the first road and continue on that road into the property.

This range is available to our community every day, unless it is rented for a private event or for our training.
I recommend that you bring your own targets and please pick up after your self. Exercise all the safety rules at all times.
The owner of this property is Mr. Henry and his phone number is 305 394-2151. He is usually there every day including weekends. The range fee is $8 per day.

Wow. Homestead is a hike, but I've never shot anywhere but a range either. I'd go to homestead if I would be allowed to shoot some produce and cans or something. Sounded like they allowed it in the clip you posted...

American gun range as far as I know allows EVERYTHING. Auto, rapid fire, reloads, etc.

The only thing about it I don't like is that they only watch the actual range via video. Nobody is monitoring noobs sweeping people. With that said though, ironically enough I've had the least number of safety problems come up there and it's the range that I go to most often, although I haven't been in months.

It's a good range overall. Bad ammo prices though, but I've come to expect that at almost every range down here.

Oh yeah, it's kinda beat up inside so it looks bad, but looks aside it's fine.

what do you think of American indoor?

Any indoor gun range in South Broward can be scary. Lots of idiots out there and no ROs. You can get really nervous. I prefered Big Al's when I lived there if I had to goto an indoor range. Otherwise I always used to go to Markham.

How is Trail Glades? I haven't been there since I was a kid. I didn't know it was still open.

I like Trail Glades. I used to live about 20 minutes from it when I had an apartment down there.

The scenery is very nice and the RO's actually watch.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they make you pay if there is any damage (like a hole or a nick) to the wood posts they use for the rifle targets. That by itself might be ok, but it includes if the guy next to you hits your post. That was annoying. Fortunately, it's only a dollar (if I remember right) per target if it happens. Also, you have to be a "member" to shoot there which just means you take a safety course they have every hour or so there and pay $5 I think to get a member card.

I called American Range today as the weather lately has me thinking there will be rain at some point, likely in the morning.

The 10-day forecast for where Markham park is says that there's only a 30% chance of rain, and the temp. will be approx 87, but let's wait a little bit to see how that pans out.

I called American just to see if anything could be arranged for that morning where we could perhaps situate ourselves at a block of lanes. They didn't pick up, so I left a message.

What are you guys feeling like? Want to wait and see if Markham is possible, or plan on American?

Just one possible problem for me. I'm probably going to be hospitalized starting tomorrow afternoon for a few days. Just routine stuff due to a stomach condition, nothing serious. Unfortunately, there's no way to plan for this stuff so it can sometimes mess up my plans. There's a slight chance that I might have to have explorative surgery though, and if that happens, I'll definitely be out. Also, if they don't let me out before Sunday, I'd also be out. If that happens though, you guys go have fun. No worries. :)

ETA: Just in case I'm not around starting tomorrow, here's the contact info for Markham's range: 954-389-2005
and the contact info for American Gun Range: (954) 989-6968

Also, a map of American Gun Range for those who don't know where it is:

I assume most of you know where Markham is, but just in case:

well, I'm not yet in hotel hospitale as expected. Might be in tomorrow and out in time though, or they might spare me and not ask me to go, who knows.

In the meantime though I can try to help coordinate.

What's everybody's individual status so far?

I'm actually planning to go to Trail Glades tomorrow morning to check out the IDPA there, and might shoot some skeet afterwards. Sunday is out for me, because my daughter's baptism is that day.

well, it's the 12th. Looks like we'll have to reschedule as it didn't seem to work out this time.

oh well. Best of luck next time.
