Good day all, I wanted to share pictures of my 1916/FR7 Spanish mauser chambered in 7.62x39. Its taken over a year from concept to reality, but the results are pretty good I think. The barrel kit came from Numrich, with some other odd pieces, and my brother in law's father did most of the gunsmithing Its a blast to shoot, no real recoil, and cool looking to boot. Here is some before and after pictures. Enjoy. :)

Before: 1916 Spanish Mauser in 7x57 Mauser

After: Converted 1916/FR7.62x39 (I added my Star Super 9mm Largo, makes a nice pairing.)

Do you use an extended extractor or stock? How is the brass extraction/ejection? I did not know Numerich has 7.62x39 barrels in military profile, I built 3 or 4 small ring mauser 7/62x39s using Numerich barrels. Well, 2-3 small ring Spanish 1893 mausers and 1 large ring Turkish mauser that uses small ring barrel. All commercial barrel profile.

Thats pretty cool, I have a 1916 short rifle in .308. I put a X39 adaptor in it from EBACO. It worked well for awhile. Feeding was surprisingly good andextraction was 100%. Accuracy was great. I loved it But after several 100 rounds the bolt started getting stiff on closing until I decided to pull the adapter. I think it had started to back out. Haven't used it in a long while but I decided to load cast bullet loads for it and get it shooting again. Do you have a link for the barrel assy you used. Maybe I'll go that route. Actually I wish mine was still in original 7x57. That was the first round I reloaded for back in the 70s in a old sporterised M95 Oviedo Mauser.

Nice! Something you plink inexpensively with. Was it originally a 7mm? Hows the accuracy?

It was in 7mm mauser originally, and I have another one with the crest on it that I am working on. Accuracy, unknown at this time, short range, its a blast! I will get to the range sometime in the next month or so and really work it in. I will have an update when I get to it. :)

My brother in law's father built up the extractor, making it longer than the original, and it works fine, though with the parkerizing he did on the bolt, it will take time to wear it in. Its slow and drags a bit, extraction is good, have to do a quick jerk. Otherwise it can stick, but I kinda figured it was going to be my all time fun rifle, so some quirks are acceptable. Numrich has some barrel kits available now, but a bit more expensive now then when I ordered mine. I ordered other parts from them to make the front of the rifle look as close as I could to a real FR7. There is quite a bit of tinkering going on, its not a quick job and done. But, when have you ever seen an FR7 in 7.62x39 before? I havn't.

Numrich has them available now, though be warned they are a bit more then I paid for mine. I think I saw them for 199.00 but its a 21" barrel in the white, with follower, spring and spacer insert(insert is made of plastic) They are available, just look them up under 1893 spanish rifle in the mauser section. They have barrels for 7.62x39 and 7mm mauser, the others are out of stock currently.
