Long shot here ... but has anybody had any problems with the Speer recommended COL of 1.130" with 147g TMJ P/N 4006 or Gold Dot 4002? I loaded up a bunch of these at about 1.125" and the action would not return to battery. Had to slam the slide forward with a couple firm taps of a rubber mallet. Could not manually eject round. Was able to replicate the problem in the shop with dummy rounds.

I resized at about 1.098" and they cycled great and were very accurate. This is the length factory FC Hydrashoks and Gold Dots are at in this bullet weight by the way. Accurate Powder load data for this bullet ("SPR TMJ" is whats listed by Accurate - I supposes its the same projectile ...) calls for COL of 1.095" by contrast.

The bearing length of this bullet seems rather long and am wondering if that combined with a long cartridge COL can lead to feeding sensitivity. Anybody else seen this?

1) Reloading manuals do not recommend an OAL, they only report what OAL they used in their testing.

2) The maximum OAL is set by the bullet-to-barrel fit. It is up to the reloader to measure the fit of any new bullet in his/her barrel and then determine a proper OAL.

It is widely known that some eastern European manufacturers like CZ and the makers of the Springfield XD series have extremely short freebore. On those guns, almost every bullet will need care in finding a workable solution to OAL issues.
